Sony Online Entertainment Gives Up Your Credit Cards

Yeah, the hits keep on coming for Sony. After dealing with a major hack to the PlayStation Network, Sony Online Entertainment didn’t want to feel left out. Their network is now down from being hacked and a press release has been issued.

This information, which was discovered by engineers and security consultants reviewing SOE systems, showed that personal information from approximately 24.6 million SOE accounts may have been stolen, as well as certain information from an outdated database from 2007. The information from the outdated database that may have been stolen includes approximately 12,700 non-U.S. credit or debit card numbers and expiration dates (but not credit card security codes), and about 10,700 direct debit records of certain customers in Austria, Germany, Netherlands and Spain.

Well, that’s just dandy. Sure, it’s not everyone’s credit card info, but it’s everyone’s personal data. Even if you don’t have a PS3 and a PlayStation Network account, those of you who play Free Realms and DC Universe Online are now members of our illustrious group.

At this point, Sony has major explaining to do - more so than before. This is the second separate hack to their systems that resulted in massive loss of personal customer data. I don’t think 30 days of PlayStation Plus membership is going to cut it.
