Manny Martinez November 12, 2010 | Leave a Comment

Available via the Game Marketplace over Xbox Live, Ubisoft’s Bloody Good Time demo puts players in the skin of a variety of wannabe movie stars as they compete for fame on set by eliminating the other wannabe’s via a multitude of murder weapons, murder aids and over the top death traps.

Hunted: Demon’s Forge: Hands-On Impressions

Justin McCullough October 27, 2010 | Leave a Comment

We haven’t really seen a really good two person medieval co-op game in quite some time. Sure, Quantum Theory was sort of a co-op attempt (the other character Filena was able to do some combos with you), but that was a lackluster effort and doesn’t really count.

However, inXile Entertaiment is pairing with big budget publisher Bethesda Softworks to fill the void of medieval co-op games and bring Hunted: Demon’s Forge to hungry gamers everywhere.

First Impressions: Vanquish Demo

Manny Martinez September 3, 2010 | Leave a Comment

Available today on the Xbox Live Marketplace, the demo for Sega’s Vanquish puts a futuristic spin on the fast paced, stylized combat of Bayonetta and combines it with a break dancing Master Chief. I’ll explain that last statement in a minute. It’s the distant future and Russia has commandeered a U.S orbital solar satellite and used it to turn San Francisco into a crater. It’s up to football pro turned government super-suit pilot Sam to blast, punch, and windmill his way through waves or human and non-human opponents in an effort to retake the satellite before the same can be done to New York.

E3 2010: Epic Mickey Preview

Justin McCullough August 16, 2010 | 1 Comment

One of the most original and surprising games we saw at E3 was Disney’s Epic Mickey. Now, I know what you are probably saying, “Loot Ninja is mostly a hardcore gaming fan-site, focusing mostly on next-gen shooter titles and adult gameplay elements?” Well, guess what. You’re wrong. You should really care about Epic Mickey. If you don’t, you’ll probably end up with paint thinner on your head. Why is that bad? Read on for more. Continue reading »

E3 2010: DJ Hero 2 Preview

Matt Banks August 5, 2010 | Leave a Comment

One of my favorite games last year was DJ Hero. I’m a huge fan of turntablism and underground hip hop, so being able to spin and scratch in a game was a breath of fresh air in the rhythm genre for me. While the game was very good, it wasn’t without faults. At E3, we went hands on with DJ Hero 2 to see all the new changes, tweaks, and additions to the game. I left the demo session very impressed and looking forward to its launch this Fall.

E3 2010: Dance Central Preview

Matt Banks July 30, 2010 | Leave a Comment

I’ve never woken up and thought to myself, “I just wanna dance.” Sure, some of you may have had those ideas, but I’m not in that boat. So when Harmonix took the stage at the Microsoft E3 press conference and showed off Dance Central, along with some extremely awkward producer dance moves, I didn’t think I’d ever want to touch the game. Fast forward two days to our appointment at the Harmonix booth and me taking the stage to play Dance Central. I got up there kicking and screaming, but left the stage with a big smile on my face. Dancing with Kinect is actually pretty fun.

E3 2010: Rock Band 3 Preview

Matt Banks July 29, 2010 | 2 Comments

I heart music games. Ever since the early days of Guitar Hero, I’ve been a huge fan of the genre. Semi-regular Rock Band parties go down at my house, and with all the DLC and exported disc-based songs I have, we don’t run into repeats all that often (except when 20 people want to play “Livin’ on a Prayer” for an hour straight). But that doesn’t mean I don’t have frustrations with Rock Band 2, my current go-to rhythm game. With Rock Band 3 shown off at E3, I got a chance to go hands on with Harmonix’s new baby and nearly every qualm I have with the series has been addressed. This is the ultimate music game.

E3 2010: Killzone 3 Preview

Matt Banks July 28, 2010 | Leave a Comment

Killzone 2 was one of the most anticipated shooters on the PS3 last year. After the hoopla surrounding the initial CGI trailer, the game had some big shoes to fill. While it was a solid shooter, many took issue with the controls and even though the multiplayer had some nice innovations, it just didn’t have the saying power online to compete with the behemoths in the industry. With Killzone 3, Sony and Guerrilla Games are looking to perfect what was already a solid base. At E3, we went hands on with a few single player levels and came away mostly impressed.

E3 2010: Donkey Kong Country Returns Preview

Matt Banks July 27, 2010 | 2 Comments

One of the surprise announcements at E3 that piqued my interest was Nintendo’s reveal of Donkey Kong Country Returns. It’s been a few years since a proper Donkey Kong game has graced our living rooms and DKCR is a solid successor to the SNES classic. I spent countless hours at my friend’s house growing up playing Donkey Kong Country, running through the game multiple times seeing which of us could complete the levels the fastest. The newer incarnation looks to supplant that multiplayer factor for a more co-op based game and the results are nothing short of a damn good time.

E3 2010: NBA Jam Preview

Matt Banks July 26, 2010 | Leave a Comment

If there was one game outside of Mortal Kombat that dominated the Sega Genesis era in my house, it was NBA Jam. The half court massive dunks, the announcer calling out “He’s on Fire!” or “Boom-shaka-laka!”, and the fast paced play made it a sure winner. Gamers have been calling for a remake of the game for years, and with Midway going under, EA picked up the franchise and is taking it to the hole. Right now, it’s only announced for Wii (although the ESRB has rated the game for Xbox 360 and PS3). We got a chance to play at E3 this year and Justin and I had to be pried away from the controllers.
