Go Behind the Scenes on your iPad in The Final Hours of Portal 2

Geoff Keighley has quite a bit of notoriety in the video game press. Aside from hosting multiple television and internet shows as well as dual wielding smartphones (yeah, I’ve seen that a number of times), he’s also a pretty damn good writer. Back in his GameSpot days, he had a “Final Hours” series where he went behind the scenes of some big games as the studios prepared for launch. The column has been on hiatus… until now.

The Final Hours of Portal 2 isn’t just your run of the mill article getting you in depth with Valve. Keighley spent plenty of time at the Valve studios and the new iPad-only app gives interactive elements, screenshots, videos and interviews to go with the stories of how Portal 2 came to our hearts and thumbs. The 310MB download will run you $1.99 and is well worth every single penny. This marks the second major iPad app of video game journalistic nature that really kicks ass (the other being Atomix).

I’ve spent some time with The Final Hours of Portal 2 and am greatly enjoying what I’ve found. There’s plenty more for me to dig in and check out and I am very satisfied with the purchase. Here’s to hoping Geoff makes this a regular thing again — I’d glady pay $1.99 a month for something of this caliber. Click here to check it out in the App Store and drop the cash for quality material.

Based on what I’ve seen so far, it would be pretty tough to do on iPhone just because of screen size. A lot of the interactive things just wouldn’t work.
