There has been a rumor floating around for a while that the original Halo: Combat Evolved would see a remake in 2011 to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the iconic console FPS franchise. Today, even more fuel has been added to the fire as Joystiq is reporting that the game will be released November 15th.
It was previously believed that the game would run on the Halo: Reach engine, but The Stiq is reporting that all new art assets are being produced and that the Halo: Reach engine is not what’s being used to create the game. No word on if it’s something totally new or a previous engine being re-worked for Halo. Audio will remain unchanged (thankfully), but controls will be updated to match current Halo configurations. Multiplayer details have not been provided aside from campaign co-op, but if it sports anything less than Hal0-level play, the Xbox 360 gaming world would explode. Oh, and it’ll be released in 1080p 3D just in case you want to go out and buy one of those fancy new HDTV’s.
The game is reportedly in development not internally at 343 Industries at Microsoft, but at Saber Interactive over in New Jersey. Saber is responsible for TimeShift and Inversion, for those of you keeping track. I can’t imagine Microsoft giving the Halo reigns to anyone that could potentially screw the pooch, so we’ll see what Saber is made of with this re-release.
Nothing is confirmed yet and I wouldn’t expect Microsoft to drop any knowledge on the game until E3 in June. That won’t stop everyone from speculating, but just remember this: Joystiq doesn’t just run rumors willy nilly, especially those where they state things with confidence, as was done here. If you see smoke, there’s usually fire. And smores. Delicious, delicious smores.

Hell yeah, I hope they open that old server back up befor the release. I love haveing that on DLC with no way to play it online.
Hang um High here I come. Love that map I guess I’ll buy this it will be cool to see it in HD. It’s kind of beating a dead horse though.
