Chrono Trigger Coming to Virtual Console

This Monday, May 16th, the cult-classic game from the Super Nintendo era Chrono Trigger will be available for download on the U.S. Virtual Console. This confirms prior reports from the ESRB which listed the game in it’s online database, hinting that the game could be released.

But not only are Nintendo gamers getting their hands on a great Japanese RPG, Playstation Network gamers and Japanese cellphone owners are getting ports that are also planned for this year. This will release the game on a smattering of new platforms after the re-release on the Nintendo DS and Playstation platform. Also, the Japanese Virtual Console Store will recieve the game on April 26th.

Chrono Trigger will be available on the U.S. Virtual Console for 800 Wii Points (or $8 bucks).

I actually saw Chrono Trigger at Best Buy the other day for cheap (I think it was a pre-owned copy for $19.99) and almost picked it up. After seeing this story, it’s good I didn’t. Chrono Trigger is one of those games I feel needs to be played just so I get the experience with it. I’ve heard all kinds of good things about it and it’s been on my radar for quite some time. Even with all of my random internet browsing I continue to hear murmurs of the game on forums or news sites.

I’m excited for Chrono Trigger to come out on the Virtual Console and PSN. This will look great in my collection next to Final Fantasy VII.
