Wii Officially Drops to $149

Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. We’d heard strong rumors of the Wii dropping to the $149 price point for a little while now and today Nintendo has confirmed that to be true. The price drop is effective immediately and starting May 15th, the system will come bundled with Mario Kart Wii and wheel instead of Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. The new lower-priced Wii will be available in black and white and will still include the Wii Remote Plus.

To go along with the price drop, Nintendo is also unveiling Nintendo Selects. The first party titles will be available for $19.99 for those of you looking to catch up on some classics from the platform. The games available at launch on May 15th will be The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Animal Crossing: City Folk, Mario Super Sluggers and Wii Sports. It’ll be the first time you can buy Wii Sports as a standalone product.

The move comes a month before Nintendo is set to take the wraps off the Wii’s successor at E3. With a new platform coming in a year, it’s definitely time to push the hardware still left. Sales of the Wii have been dropping and once the general public gets word of the new console in June, sales will only continue to stagnate. So, if you want another Wii, go hop on it.
