Did the Gran Turismo 5 Delays Change Your Purchase Decision?

Today is finally the day, friends. Those of you who have been waiting patiently for years can now run out and buy Gran Turismo 5. With a thousand cars, a shit-ton of tracks, kart racing and Nascar, you can’t deny that GT5 packs more content than most games for the price tag. But did waiting so long cause your interest to dwindle for the game? Do you even care that it’s finally out for purchase today?

Some of you have moved over to the Forza series on the Xbox 360. The flagship racer on Microsoft’s platform has iterated a few times in the span between GT4 and today (with a sprinkling of GT5 Prologue in between). Others have just become disinterested overall in the racing genre. Some of you have gotten heavily invested in racing wheels and peripherals on the Xbox 360, so doing the same on the PS3 would be cost prohibitive.

I used to be a huge Gran Turismo fan, but today’s release doesn’t have me jumping out of my seat like the series did in the days of yore. Yes, I legitimately just used that phrase. And yes, I will still be buying GT5, but I’m going in with some trepidation. GT5 Prologue didn’t do much for me at all and the PSP version, while a solid racer, lacked any semblance of a cohesive career mode. If GT5 follows down that path, you can bet I’ll be putting the game down quickly instead of going for 100% completion like I did in previous Gran Turismo’s.

We want to hear from you. What are your thoughts on the frequent delays in the Gran Turismo series? Are you grabbing the game today or putting it on your Holiday Wish List? Or are you passing by altogether because you prefer tea bagging noobs in Call of Duty?

World of Goo Coming Soon to iPad

If you haven’t played World of Goo, you’re really missing out on one of best indie games of the past few years. 2D Boy slapped together an amazing game that works perfectly if you have some sort of pointer-based input, which makes it a solid fit for Apple’s iPad. Turns out, they knew it would work well on the device and have the game submitted for review already with a release coming soon.

No concrete release date is set as Apple has to approve the game and no pricing has been revealed as of yet. I would imagine somewhere in the $9.99-14.99 range (and it’ll be worth every penny). With 11 point multi-touch support, you’ll be able to construct all kinds of goo-related structures.

As of now, there aren’t any plans to bring the game to the iPhone, and I have to agree with that decision. The game probably wouldn’t work as well on the smaller screen, but it’s a day one purchase on the iPad.

With Black Ops Here, Do You Remember Reach?

Call of Duty: Black Ops is without question the biggest multiplayer game on the scene right now. But not too long ago, another monster title dropped on our Xbox 360′s that took up the majority of our gaming time. Do you Remember Reach? Sure you do. If you don’t, someone should smack the shit out of you. But do you really remember the game? Are you still playing it, or has Black Ops taken over your life?

I’m still a big fan of the Daily and Weekly Challenges in Halo: Reach and I’ve always been a big Halo fan, so I’m still going back and playing at least once a week. I personally prefer the Halo action as opposed to the fast paced frantic gunplay of Call of Duty, but I do see the merits of each. I’ve been playing a bit more Black Ops than Reach right now with Black Ops being so new, but over the course of the next few weeks, I can see it evening out and eventually having the pendulum swing back to the Halo: Reach side of things.

What about you? Was your life dominated by Halo: Reach and now it’s just sitting on a shelf collecting dust so you can boost your killstreak enough to get the attack helicopter? Or are you bouncing back and forth between Plasma Grenades and M16′s with noob tubes? Hit us up in the comments — we want to know!

Black Ops Gets Patched on Consoles

We’re all enjoying our time in Call of Duty: Black Ops, as long as it’s not on Nuketown. But the game isn’t without its flaws. To try and fix some of the online problems, Treyarch issued a patch today for PS3 and Xbox 360 users.

Full patch notes are after the jump, but the biggest change, in my opinion, is fixing the party system so players aren’t split up. I’ve encountered that entirely too many times in my short experience with the game. I’d be in a lobby with a friend, chatting with Party Chat just talking about whatever, and then hear my friend start yelling “TAKING A!” in a game on Domination. It’s promptly followed by “Dude, are you in a game? I’m still in the lobby”, then confusion about what just happened. I’ve spent over an hour with friends thinking it was our NAT being Open vs Moderate, etc. Turns out it’s just a glitch with the game’s party system.

PS3 Gets VUDU – Do You Even Care?

If you’re looking to watch a movie on your PS3, you’re about to get one more choice from where to stream. In the already crowded market of Netflix, the PS3 Video Store, Hulu Plus, MLB and NHL streaming, Sony announced today that they’re adding VUDU to the console on November 23rd.

For those of you that don’t know, VUDU is a wholly owned subsidiary of Walmart and is currently available as an app on some HDTV’s, Blu-Ray players, and the much loved Boxee Box and service. You can drop money into your account and rent movies in 1080p HD with 5.1 channel surround sound all over your streaming internet connection. Think of it as Netflix without the monthly fee or the PS3 Video Store without the downloads. Or, if you want to compare it to the Xbox 360 side of things, think of it like how the Zune Marketplace works.

Personally, this addition to the PS3 does nothing for me. There are already plenty of video streaming options on the console, but hey, another one isn’t going to hurt anyone, really. It could allow Sony wiggle room to not have to pay for streaming rights for some videos in the PS3 Video Store and just direct people over to the VUDU app. But the big drawback for me is having to maintain yet another online wallet. If Sony can somehow manage to integrate it with your PSN account wallet, I might give it a shot. But as it is, I already have money in my PSN account and Banana Bucks over on Xbox Live that I can use for movie rentals if I so choose.

Now if only someone would add Pandora support to a console…

Review: James Bond 007: Blood Stone

Bond games have come and gone over the years with few shining stars. Goldeneye back on the N64 and recently Goldeneye 007 on the Wii stand out from the pack, but most games on non-Nintendo consoles just haven’t lived up the franchise’s namesake. Bizarre Creations, of Project Gotham Racing and Geometry Wars fame, took the reigns in the latest Bond experience, 007: Blood Stone. While the graphics, sound, and controls live up the hype, the game doesn’t deliver where it counts.

APB Rising From the Ashes, Going Free to Play

Realtime Worlds was shut down and its latest MMO, APB, went along with it. The game didn’t do too well at retail and didn’t have many paying players, but the community got very vocal when the game shut down and they lost their investment a short amount of time after buying the game. Thanks to their concern, the IP of the game has been purchased by GamersFirst.

Reloaded Productions, wholly owned subsidiary of GamersFirst, is now in charge and will be re-tooling the game for a Free to Play release in the first half of 2011. Those of you who bought APB when it originally released are still somewhat screwed, but at least you’ll have a chance to get back to playing the game you enjoy for no cost. Maybe original players will get some sort of bonus when the game relaunches.

GamersFirst did make an effort to buy out Realtime Worlds in an effort to prevent job loss, but a deal wasn’t able to be reached. Hopefully the talented team finds new work soon and can keep producing great games.

Will any of you be picking up APB when it drops for free in 2011? CrimeCraft has the same model, but I don’t think many of you are playing that either.

Week in Loot Ninja – The Black Ops Effect

I’ve never been a big Call of Duty multiplayer fan. The number one reason — I suck. I die a lot in CoD online, so I’ve never really put in a ton of time. When Black Ops came out this week and a copy dropped down on my desk, I figured I’d give it a shot. Since Thursday evening, I’ve probably put in eight hours of just multiplayer time. While I was super frustrated at first, I’ve been steadily getting better and having a good time. I’m starting to see why you people love it so much. But with that out of the way, there aren’t many major game releases the rest of 2010. Assassins Creed Brotherhood drops this week, but that’s pretty much a wrap for 2010. Call of Duty has really put a hurtin’ on Holiday releases.
