If you are like me you downloaded the Aliens vs Predator demo for PS3 and you were severely disappointed when you couldn’t join a match. So the demo just took up precious hard drive space and time instead of entertaining me. It sucked. Now Rebellion and Sega have done something about it. There is a whole new demo up on PSN, replacing the previous file so it requires a new download but that’s okay because I can now enjoy the game like I did at the Eurogamer Expo last year. I hope you’re happy too.
While on the subject of the AvP demo CEO of Rebellion Jason Kingsley explained why the demo is Deathmatch only.
We chose Deathmatch as the mode for the demo as it’s very familiar to all FPS gamers and minimizes restrictions on players while they are getting to grips with the controls of each of the three playable species. We have plenty of new modes in the game and players only have to wait a matter of days before they can play them when the game launches.
I guess some gamers had their panties in a twist over the demo being Deathmatch only. It’s a demo people, a little sample of what’s to come so suck it up.
Alien vs. Predator has seen it’s fair share of controversy already. With review scores coming in across the board, rabid fans are taking things to heart. While we have only played the demo at this point, we can say that playing as an alien or Predator are cool, but being a marine isn’t as much fun. As if I could not want this game anymore. The idea of being a Predator, an Alien, and even a Space Marine fighting for survival against insane odds isn’t enough, there is even more incentive to play this game. Here is the latest trailer which pits you and 3 friends fighting wave after wave of those slimy bastards. This is what every fan of the Aliens franchise has always wanted to do.
Would you like a serious assault rifle with motion detector? Perhaps an awesome infrared vision with laser, wrist-blades, and invisible cloak. Or do you prefer the sharp claws, spear tail, and the ability to walk on walls? Doesn’t matter because it’s all awesomeness. Humans, Aliens, and Predators all together, one big family reunion of gun shots and guttings.
Aliens: Colonial Marines was announced first, not that Alien vs. Predator game! I want Colonial Marines NOW! (Please do not take that last statement out of context…….)
If you have been patiently waiting for Gearbox Software’s Aliens: Colonial Marines like I have, then prepare to wait even longer. First announced back in February of 2008, its taken quite awhile to get the alien hatchlings ready to attach to your face. Not to worry though, Colonial Marines won’t be the only Alien themed game set to come out in 2010. The other (Alien vs. Predator) game will also of course feature Aliens, Marines, and even Predators; Oh my!
Aliens vs Predator is much like cowbell. We have to have more of it. The recent movies were just alright and there really has not been a good AvP game in a long, long time. This looks like it could change all of that. My only hope is that the characters will be balanced. Space Marines stand zero chance against either hunter. I hope that they have some powerful weapons or it is going to over real quick for anyone playing as a Marine.
The Aliens vs Predator concept has more potential than all the attempted crossover ideas I have seen. So far, no one has figured out how to harness said potential into a decent product. Outside of some decent at the very best movies and 16 bit games, this franchise is just waiting to explode. We have been blessed with AvP. As long as the weight the classes evenly and they promise an even campaign for all three, this could be awesome.
