Review: Halo: Reach Noble Map Pack

If there was any doubt that Bungie would not support Halo: Reach like its previous titles because of their letting go of the Halo series, those fears were put out the instant you downloaded the Noble Map Pack. This is their best map pack in years. Three great maps, all different, all designed expertly, and offer a great addition for only 10 bucks.

There are three maps here. The first map, Breakpoint, is a huge Oni Sword Base on the side of a mountain. Imagine someone built a fort into the side of a glacier. This map is suited best for game types like Invasion and Territories as it a large map and not symmetrical. There are heavy Covenant vehicles and almost not enough heavy weapons to stop them. Using Armor Lock to stop a Ghost in its tracks is awesome. If your team controls the one Wraith here, you control the map.

Map the second is Anchor 9. This is a hanger bay controlled by the UNSC so expect that type of design. This is a small map where shit gets real. I had some insane matches of Elite Slayer here with plasmas and needles everywhere. Expect a lot of slayer and lone wolf type stuff to go down. The map is small and symmetrical but in the middle of the map is where death happens. Oh yeah, part of the board is in outer space in low gravity. Outer space melee kills FTMFW.

The final map is Tempest and falls in between the others as far as size goes. Two forerunner bases are opposite one another and there is a decent sized field in between. This map was created for CTF type games and works awesome. The flags are protected in these tunnel like structures (downed UNSC bombers) but can be accessed by a few different entry points. There are also warthogs and mongooses (its not mongeese right?) around for fast transport. I also played a few crazy matches of Team Headhunter games.

All in all, these maps are great. They are not cheap HD remakes of old maps and you will not be unhappy playing any of them. There is also a Noble Map pack specific playlist that rotates all 3 maps in various game types. If you had any reservations about Noble Map Pack being a quick turnaround for cash, go easy friend. Buy it. Now.

  1. I’m really liking the new maps. I wish Anchor 9 had more weapons scattered about, but otherwise I think they’re all terrific. I’ve played only 1 game on Tempest, so I don’t have a huge feel for that one yet, but I really love Breakpoint.
