Buying A DSi XL Fatty McFatterson?

You probably want to pick that toast up with your grubby Vienna sausage fingers and eat it don’t you? Well, admire it first, then eat it. The DSI XL was recently given the release date of March 28th of this year, with Nintendo giving the public a (cue heavy metal music) EXTREME edition of their hand-held DSi console. Going for $190 dollars, this puppy clocks in with a big juicy 4.2 inch screen compared to the midget sized 3 inch screens of it’s predecessors (comparison pic later).

Is it just me or are you sick of Nintendo slightly modifying their bread and butter console (Get it? The bread and butter comment with that picture?) and re-releasing it out to the public? This thing probably only has a screen upgrade and maybe even a RAM upgrade squeezed in as well, but is it worth it for the price tag? Doesn’t Nintendo just need to start working on the next hand-held console cycle instead of having its incredibly bright engineers re-releasing something that’s essentially been around since 2004? People have been happily playing the DS console for almost 6 years now. That effectively beats out the original Xbox life cycle. The big black Xbox only hung around for 5 years (November 2001 to 2006) in it’s life cycle. Hell, the PSP has been out since 2005, but Nintendo seems to be the only one that is yelling and screaming about “This is the new thing!” and “You should buy this because it’s massively different!” when in reality it’s just one or two very small or cosmetic changes.

For something that continues to sell so well month after month, you would think Nintendo would leave a good thing well enough alone. If people were complaining and crying out for a fatty finger hand-held like the XL, people wouldn’t have bought the first DS, and the DS Lite, and the DSi.

I guess I’m just ready for the next hand-held console generation to get here, and I’m sticking it to Nintendo for creating a hand-held that fits better in my fatty, cheesy, greasy American fingers. It even has a screen that my huge American eyes can see better. Thanks Nintendo. Thanks for continuing to tell your consumer base that they are fat and overweight and need special consoles (*cough cough* Wii Fit as well). Wait, why am I complaining again? This helps me to continue to be obese! So let me get in my mobility scooter and go pick up a double cheeseburger and plop down my $190 bucks for something that I already have.

Great article. Thats my feeling regarding the PSP Go…..ing nowhere. Overprice the same machine with different small features. They should both realize that their competitors are still stuck in the past and they should come out with a new breakthrough portable
