Watch out Gamefly. Blockbuster is on it’s way into the by-mail game rental service nation-wide. It’s following up on a pilot program it dabbled in last year, but now it’s been confirmed that Blockbuster is offering home delivery of video games through its Blockbuster By Mail service nationwide.
You’ll get the games at no additional charge over the standard By Mail subscription fee. Customers can then choose from the Blockbuster catalogue of more than 3,000 games for the Xbox, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and Wii. The Blockbuster By Mail memberships usually start around the same price as Netflix ($8.99 per month) and include unlimited rentals of movies, games, and television shows.
Definitely seems like the shaky Blockbuster, who is very close to bankruptcy, is getting into this market to compete with GameFly and Netflix, who have seen significant growth in this sector. For the same price as one subscription of GameFly or Netflix, you’ll be able to rent both games and movies. Netflix is usually around 10 bucks and so is GameFly. That would be around twenty bucks a month to do something like this, or you can just go to Blockbuster and do it for nine dollars.
Sounds like a great deal right? Are you buying?
