Expect More PS2 High-Def Conversions

Did you buy the God of War III Collection? Do you plan on buying the upcoming Sly Cooper Collection announced at this years Sony E3 press conference? Well if you are excited about this, expect more PS2 high-def upgrades and re-issues for the PS3.

In an interview with IGN.com during E3, Shuhei Yoshida, the president of Sony Computer Entertainment’s Worldwide Studios, confirmed that the company will continue to release Blu-ray updates and collections of PS2 games in the future.

“Santa Monica Studios had the brilliant idea to upgrade and improve God of War for PS3 with the God of War Collection that we released last year,” Yoshida said. “There were a lot of positive reactions from consumers in doing that, and now we get a lot of suggestions for types of packs they’d like to see.”

“So we are looking to continue to do these HD conversions,” he added.

Yoshida was then asked about what the possibilities where about releasing PS2 titles through PlayStation Network. He said that Sony is looking at different methods but wouldn’t confirm anything. “We are looking into ways how we can deliver the PS2 library to PS3 consumers, but were are not ready to announce anything yet.”

This is great news for any and all of those PS3 owners who might have missed out on a great game or two, and also a way for Sony to get an extra 15 bucks out of some remastered PS2 games. We see the same practice going on with older classic CD’s, so why not do the same thing for our classic video games? With upgraded 720p graphics (comparable to the God Of War Collection), added content and revitalized gameplay, who wouldn’t jump on an HD Final Fantasy VII?

  1. Tweak

I picked up the God of War Collection and totally loved it. I heard they are making an Ico and Shadow of the Colossus collection and I’d be willing to try it out when it comes out.

    1. Thanks Tweak, I also still need to pick up the GoW Collection as well as GoW III. I’ve heard so much about the Ico and the Shadows of the Colossus re-do that I’ll need to get that too! DAMMIT! So many classic games to replay!
