If you we’re gushing at the spy shots of the “Zune X” a couple of weeks back, you probably need to go for a psychiatric evaluation. Not only did the device look like complete trash, but the specs were borderline ridiculous. Well, to finally dispell all of the Zune X rumors, out comes the Zune HD. What some thought to be an artist’s rendition a couple of months back, turned out to be actual images of the device. The official site has gone up with specs galore. The highlight for me being “a 3.3 inch screen and vivid 16:9 OLED display (480×272 resolution)” if you guys don’t know what OLED is, you need check out Sony’s XEl-1 prototype. Only 2 words can be used to describe the colors produced by an OLED screen and they are: Fucking and Sexy.
Another detail is the ability to “Watch supported 720p HD movies, TV shows and videos in high definition on your HDTV through the Zune HD” oh and that’s done with the device’s HDMI out (take that PSP with your silly 480i component cables), so you can hook this bad boy up to pretty much any HD Set. Now, the question is will that work for games? Early rumors are suggesting XBOX Live and XBL Arcade game intergration, and ever since J. Allard left Microsoft’s game division for the entertainment division there has always been chatter about the Zune and the 360 coming together at some point. Now I believe that time is finally upon us. We’ll just have to wait and see if Microsoft brings this baby up at it’s E3 press conference, on Monday June 1st. Stay Tuned.
With E3 just a couple of weeks away, the game related rumors online are spreading faster than swine flu at a taco stand. We still have about 2 weeks to go, and I’m sure between now and then we’ll see rumors about Halo 4 on the PSP; but let’s focus on the topic at hand, shall we? A couple of nights ago, a blog by the name of MIMBEE.TV leaked a shot from a secret conference where this mysterious Microsoft handheld was shown off. For a second I was surprised, considering Microsoft has stated publicly many times that they want no part of the portable market and actually ridiculed Sony for jumping into that death dance with Nintendo way back in 2005. If the “leaked” photo wasn’t enough, it was followed up by the way of a full specification sheet the very next day. Hit the jump to check out the specs.

The Lips Open Mic Contest is being presented by AT&T for a chance to have your original song featured as a free download in the game.
The contest requires participants to compose their own original song and submit a video of the performance to be judged on. Judges will narrow down the competition to the five best songs and the finalist’s videos will be posted on Xbox Live and Zune.net on April 10th where the general public will vote to decide the winner.
The winner will receive a package containing a trip to L.A. with tickets to the Warped tour, a flat screen T.V., a Xbox 360 console, a 120 GB Zune and of course your song featured as a free download on Lips. The runners-up will receive an Xbox 360, a Zune and other unnamed prizes.
The contest starts today and ends March 13th, 2009. It is only open to U.S. residents 18 years of age or older. Submit videos to www.zune.net/attlipscontest. AT&T users get a double vote by texting to 991, they are the official sponsor after all.
I kind of wish I had at least some ability to sing now. Give it a shot, you only risk soul crushing embarrassment and we all know that doesn’t hurt.
On the heels of the new Elite 360 comes rumors of the next iteration of MS consoles already. Many are skeptical if the Elite will catch on and wonder when MS will drop their real “Elite” system.
Some speculate that this machine will have functionality to link up your Windows Mobile phone, MS Zune, your laptop and even your existing 360 to a master console at the heart of the network, allowing them to share all their files. Perhaps this magical machine will be the much rumored 720.
The current 360 Elite can’t handle 5.1 – 7.1 channel uncompressed Linear PCM audio, reallistically it can only handle 2 channel. This is REQUIREMENT for all hd-dvd movies, unless you don’t value quality. You need hdmi for linear pcm audio, and not including it in the Elite is a mistake by MS. I believe it’s a hardware issue and the 360 doesn’t have enough audio pipes to handle it, while the ps3 does it out of the box with both games and blu-ray movies. Resistence is true 7.1 channel linear pcm. 360 needs to step up their game and skip this silly Elite system and move on to bigger and better things like the 720!
We all know that Microsoft has many tricks up their sleeve, but it seems that they have an ace in the deck. Advancedmedia reports that Microsoft has filed a patent that is for a gaming console that will integrate all of the peripherals that have a Microsoft logo on it. The power will be evenly distributed do you need not worry about any voltage issues. This means that you can have games that will incorporate the PC the Xbox360 and the Zune into possibly a single game. Talk about total command, the possibilities are endless and this could lead to the future of gaming on a level we have never seen. As far as the name, no ideas yet but I doubt it will be Xbox720.
