Age of Conan was a game that came onto the scene with much anticipation from gamers and was thought to be the first true shot of a World of Warcraft killer. Unfortunately for fans of the game and Age of Conan itself, it launched with some bugs and a severe lack of endgame content, which led many players to abandon the title. Even still the game has drudged on and players have continued to hack and slash their way through the title, but it looks like there has not been enough interest to sustain all the servers and many are scheduling to be shutdown.
Funcom has planned to have the servers merge to help keep the remaining players they have playing the game. They revealed they will be cutting 49 servers to just 18 servers in total.
In North American and Oceanic regions Funcom will merge 24 servers into 6 servers. There will be only one PvP server and one PvE server to remain, with each to combine the populations of six or seven existing servers.
While in Europe, Funcom will let 12 servers remain due to the four languages. English language Euro servers are being cut from 13 to 4 only.
An announcement of server closures is never good for an MMORPG. Just hope that this is an effort to streamline and not an effort to shut the game down slowly, especially with the expansion for the game looming in the distance.
