Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II Due October 26th

I want you guys to slide up to the bar and order a drink. Don’t mind that weird fly-looking guy coming up to you saying he’s “wanted on 7 systems” and all. He’s just bluffing. Just sit back and listen to the hypnotic tunes of the Mos Eisley Cantina Band and let me tell you some developing Star Wars news.

Yesterday was “May the Fourth Be With You” day (May 4th). On it, LucasArts revealed through their Force Unleashed II Facebook page that the new chapter in Galen “Starkiller” Marek’s epic saga will be releasing on October 26th of this year.

Medal Of Honor Coming October 12th

The legendary first person shooter Medal Of Honor series has always been set in and around World War II (years 1939 to 1945). That’s it. EA just announced that October 12th, 2010 marks a complete reboot of the Medal of Honor franchise, bringing it into modern times. So yes, it’s going to show it’s take on modern warfare. The new game looks to be set in Afghanistan and parts of the Middle East. Most of the trailers I’ve seen of the game include sand, caves, small huts, and camels. It has to be the Middle East right, because why would they set a Medal of Honor game in Arizona?

Medal of Honor couldn’t have timed this reboot to come at a better time. Infinity Ward is having a falling out, Treyarch is making the next Call of Duty game (probably set in Vietnam), Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will have worn off, and we’ve got a lot of developers giving their own take on the modern warfare genre. This means there will be competition going forward between developers. The beneficiary for all of this? That’s us. The gamers.

Capcom x Microsoft = Monster Hunter

That’s right kids, the previously unknown equation has been solved with an announcement today in Tokyo. What is the announcement? Well, for me it’s pretty yawn-worthy, but PC title Monster Hunter Frontier is coming to the Xbox 360. A PC online RPG, Monster Hunter Frontier was first seen on the PC way back in the summer of 2007. Yep, that’s why it’s kind of yawn worthy for me, releasing a game from 3 years ago. Hell, I guess I shouldn’t say that, I would get pretty damn excited if they re-released GoldenEye or Counter-Strike from 1997 on the XBLA.

A closed beta for the Japanese Xbox Live will go live this May, with the service beginning on a PC server, and a separate server for the Xbox. Eventually they’ll begin migrating the two servers together allowing everyone to play in harmony. I really don’t see that, as I see this becoming a bad move for both sides: two factions of mouse-clickers and controllers going their separate ways. And they say that segregation is dead and gone. Yeah right! Expect to hear “Die mouse-clicker scumbag!” and “Eat my analog shit!” over your headset come May.

Hidden costs begin to rear their ugly head at the announcement today, with users being asked to pay $15 dollars a month (in yen) over the course of a year in order to play online. Don’t worry though, this cost also includes a 1 month subscription to Xbox Live, bringing the yearly total for Xbox Live/Monster Hunter to $180 dollars. Now, factor in that you won’t have to pay the $60 dollars for Xbox Live anymore (since you are getting that bundled) and your cost comes to around $120 dollars if you play this all year.

I’m in the boat of “This shit wouldn’t fly like that here in America, and I definitely wouldn’t pay $120 bucks to play 1 game for a whole year,” but that’s what separates us from the Japanese markets, they eat this shit up! I might be in for a month or two, but there are not very many games that hold my attention for more than a month or two.

X-Wing Vs. TIE Fighter Series Returning?

TIE Fighter

MUST. GET. POWER CONVERTERS!

LucasArts has been on a tear lately revamping and revitalizing its older game properties. With the recent release of The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition to The Dig, the minions under George Lucas are hard at work bringing back older franchises. With that being said, something just might be on the horizon for the famous dogfighting adventure series set in the Star Wars universe.

G4′s Patrick Klepek recently sat down with LucasArts president Darrel Rodriguez and asked about the future of the X-Wing, TIE Fighter, and the X-wing vs. TIE Fighter series.

“We don’t have any announcements now, but stay tuned,” Rodriguez said. “We will soon…..”

I’m hoping for a full-on gaming title for this generation, but at this point, I really don’t care! I just want to strap myself in to the Incom Corp. T-65 X-wing starfighter and take on a few pesky womprats in training mode. Is that too much to ask without having to break out my 100MHz Packard Bell and suction cup equipped joystick to watch porn take on Beggar’s Canyon? Yes, I know! With that last comment you all probably know now that I am a huge Star Wars nerd. HUGE!

Here’s hoping that we will hear an announcement soon about this upcoming title. Then and only then I will be able to safely take my Ewok sleepy shorts out of their cubby and wear them with pride!

The upcoming film, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, is going to be a video game as well. EA intends to release the game alongside the film for almost every platform imaginable.

“We are happy to announce that we are able to bring the full Toki Tori experience to iPhone gamers.”, says Martijn Reuvers, Managing Director at Two Tribes. “A lot of games get dumbed down before being released on the iPhone, but we believe in full quality games and offer exactly this with Toki Tori.”

The updated Wii version was well received by most reviewers saying Two Tribes did a fine job with the unique control capabilities of the system. The Behemoth Hints at a New Title

Dan Paladin, the self proclaimed best blogger of 2009, has decided to let us all in on a little secret. The Behemoth is currently working on a new title but Dan decided he won’t tell us what it is quite yet.

We’ve been prototyping a new title. A new game, YES!! Sorry, I can’t tell you what it is yet! I can tell you though that we are off to a very strong & solid start. The game has proven to be a lot of fun for the people that we’ve shown! Perhaps we can start posting imagery later on and begin a guessing game about the game. It’s like two games in one! Maybe we’ll just flat out tell you, though, and ruin the guessing game.

Could it be a sequel to Alien Hominid? I highly doubt it. The fact that he has mentioned they are prototyping a new title could mean another original IP. Technical issues aside, The Behemoth puts out some of the most entertaining arcade titles to date. Too bad it seems like it takes this small team of developers an eternity to get a game out the door. I absolutely despise waiting.

So, any guesses on what this new game could be?

Halo Wars Arriving February 2009

Microsoft Game Studios has announced that the much anticipated Halo Wars from soon defunct Ensemble Studios will be arriving at retailers sometime in February 2009. There will be both a standard and limited collector’s edition through participating retailers. The most exciting part of this news is what is included in the collector’s edition:

  • Three New “Halo 3” Multiplayer Maps – Be one of the first to experience the Mythic Map Pack from Bungie which includes three new maps, “Assembly,” “Orbital” and “Sandbox”
  • Halo Wars: Genesis – a beautiful graphic novel by Phil Noto, Graeme Devine and Eric Nylund chronicling the first military campaign against the Covenant. The novel centers around the Spirit of Fire on a mission to discover why the Covenant are so interested in the world of Harvest
  • Unique In-game Vehicle – “Honor Guard” Wraith
  • Six Leader Cards – Leaders possess elite skills which can turn the tides of battle
  • Spirit of Fire Patch – Start the journey as an official Spirit of Fire crew member
  • As an added bonus, fans eager for their chance to battle the Covenant will be able to pre-order “Halo Wars” and receive a pre-order card to download a special in-game Warthog vehicle with flame decals from select participating retailers.

The standard edition will retail for $59.99 while the collector’s edition will be $79.99. I know what you are thinking about the collector’s edition pricing but don’t forget you get the Mythic Map Pack, a $10 value. I just can’t contain my excitement, I am going to run out and pre-order myself a collector’s edition immediately.
