After a good year, my 3rd Xbox 360 finally died on me. I was enjoying MW2 on Veteran when all of a sudden my 360 died. When I tried to turn it on, I was greeted with the E74 error which I knew meant my Xbox had to be taken back to the store. Before I went to the store, I was told that they would need everything from my console so I proceeded to transfer my game saves to a memory card and re-formatted my hard drive so they couldn’t access any of my info (I don’t trust their employees).
When I got to the store, I headed to the Geek Squad counter and they started to do the exchange. After about 30 minutes, they told me that I did not have a warranty on my system. If you look at the picture above, you will see two warranty plans. When I bought my first Xbox 360, I decided that it would be a good idea to get a warranty with the system. When it died, I got another one (and another warranty obviously). When the 2nd one broke, I got the Elite and asked for another warranty. After paying for the difference, the woman told me that I did not need to buy a new warranty as my current one would carry over for the rest of the duration. Apparently it didn’t.
Even after showing them how the lady stapled the receipt from my Elite to a warranty booklet and a terms and conditions sheet, the guy told me he couldn’t do anything for me because he couldn’t find a warranty anywhere and simply walked away and helped the next lady in line basically telling me to fuck myself. Apparently since the Elite was more expensive at the time I needed a different warranty. Thank you lady from before for telling me I didn’t need one.
Because of an incompetent worker who had no idea what she was talking about, my Xbox 360 is now off at Microsoft being fixed and will probably take a good few weeks. In addition, I lost all of my data on my hard drive as I was under the assumption I had a warranty (you would be too if you had a booklet which stated “here’s your warranty!”).
The moral of the story is that even though a Best Buy employee may tell you one thing, it’s always better to check with someone competent when dealing with a warranty.
/end of rant…

Always talk to a manager before you give up. Managers are there to help solve situations like this, if the manager doesn’t, call the corporate office at 1-888-237-8289 and ask for consumer relations. Obviously this is a situation that you wanted the warranty as you bought it on your other two, why wouldn’t you buy it again? Since you have had to send it to Microsoft and you were inconvenienced, they will probably give you a gift card and help solve the problem. Sorry to hear about this.
Actually the manager did come over but left without doing anything. I have been going to this Best Buy for awhile and the staff 3 years ago is heaps better than the staff now. The old manager always made sure everything was right.
[...] How Best Buy Fucked Me Over [...]
This is really weird to hear. I worked at a Best Buy not that long ago on a part-time basis. The one I was at surprised the hell out of me by how far they would go for their customers (example I can think of - calling another Best Buy in a different city, shipping the item overnight at their own expense, while also price matching just to make sure this person got what they wanted). Of course, the store I was at is considered one of the best in the chain, but still it sounds like your store needs new management. I’d be fuming too.
I agree with Chris though. Call or e-mail their corporate office and complain. Not only might they comp you for your troubles, but it’s the only way they know how their stores are treating people. And that’s how you get new mangament that gives a damn.
i cant believe people still keep buying 360’s. jesus christ
Chad is a ps3 fanboy. GET HIM!!! lolz
