I’m still perplexed at the sheer number of people that congest the realms of World of Warcraft. I’m not going to sit here, point fingers and laugh at you bastards for devoting countless hours of your life to a game. I used to be just like that until my girlfriend threatened to deprive me of things I “like” (which I was, at one point, debating). However, snooping through the net today has actually made me re-think whether or not I should get back on my level 70 warrior and run rampant in The Outlands… more because Wrath of the Lich King has blessed the WoW community with its release.
Blizzard, the genius developers behind the WoW MMO and it’s two expansions (not to mention the developers of memorable RTS games like Warcraft and Starcraft), has announced that WoW’s second expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, has sold more than 2.8 million copies in its first day on sale, making it the fastest-selling PC game of all time. Yes, they even beat their very own record of 2.4 million when The Burning Crusade was released. These fucking guys mean business, I tell you.
What does this mean? That if Blizzard really wanted, they can easily get those 2.8 million people to invade whatever country they want. No, seriously, that’s a lot of damn selling going on in one day. WoW still remains the MMO king even with the release of other online games every couple of months. They’ve easily accomplished this feat by staying active within the community, and consistently providing support and attention to what their players need and have asked for. Whether or not I decide to hop back on the band-wagon of WoW all depends on whether or not my other half persuades me with things that I can’t get anywhere else. And I’m talking about expensive electronics, people!
