How to put movies on your PSP - 101

OK so I am admitting to the fact that I am a noob, I have had a PSP for a long time and have had music and emulators on it, but never broke down and put videos on it. So I decided I would be taking a long trip in a few days and it was time to throw some videos on my 1 gig card to help make my travels seem quicker. I will list the steps below, please note that creating the root folder is the most important thing you need, this racked my brain and had me frustrated for a while but once you have that down it is all child’s play. I figured this may be useful for those of you that may invest in the new slim PSP and would like to watch donwloaded movies on your TV from your PSP.

Step- 1 You can either hook up your PSP via the USB cable or use a card reader to put videos on your memory card. If you use the USB connection make sure that you go to the PSP menu settings and chooose USB connection and hit X, the unit will not be autodetected.

Step- 2 Once your computer is linked to the PSP or you have your memory card in a card reader. You can now view your PSP memory card like an external HD or a flash drive and add files to whatever folders you like.

Step- 3 Go into the PSP Memory Stick and create another folder inside it. It’s very important to get the name correct ‘MP_ROOT’ and then create an additional sub-folder called ‘100mnv01′, this needs to be in the main folder where the intial PSP folder is found, not inside of it. This step drove me batty for a while since there is a folder that is created that is named VIDEO, but this folder if you put the videos in this folder they will not run.

Step- 4 Once the movies are saved in the folders mentioned above, you can start to watch them by clicking on the image inside the Memory Stick. It’s important to note that you will need the movies in MP4 format, and you can find plenty of software around to perform the conversion if you need to. Most converter programs will compress your files so that you can fit a decent amount of movies on a 1 gig card.

Just a quick note. I think with older PSP firmware, there is a different way to put movies on your system. Make sure when you follow these directions that your firmware is updated, or you can look around for the other method of doing it. Not sure though, but if it doesn’t work for you, you may want to google around.

Also: Use PSP Video (.7 or 1.7) i forget what version it is. The older ones have less bloatware, and are not as restricted.

    -Thanks for the tut
