Anyone who’s been following the news lately is aware the Sony is releasing a “mini-me” version of the PSP named PSP Go. The dwarfed updated PSP, which will be hitting stores on October 1st here in the states, is about 50% smaller and 40% lighter with a price tag that will probably get you a Wii. But, that’s all good. Announced, finally, with the PSP Go were wrist straps, Sony branded screen protectors, and cases. If you’re wondering if the unit comes with a USB cable, the answer is hell no. The PSP Go doesn’t have the standard mini USB port like the older PSP models do, which indicates that you’ll be spending some mullah on accessories (forget using your already-bought PSP-3000 accessories. That’s a no go).
The Go has a new multifunction port on its base that is used to do just about everything from transferring data to charging the unit to video output. Of course, we’re not considering the third-party toys that were already purchased for the older PSP models, for those of us who are debating picking this sucker up. Just about every accessory you bought for your PSP-3000 (and lower models) will be nothing but dust-collecting memorabilia unless you’re not even thinking about picking up this new shiny PSP Go.
As for UMD games, Sony is already planning a trade-in program for UMD games. So for those of you already saving your allowance to pick up this tiny handheld gaming device, get ready to put aside a bit more chump change if you’re considering buying any accessories for it.
