We’ve seen Steve’s take on what to expect from the upcoming Halo 3 expansion, but I have a different idea. I see the pods dropping, but I just don’t see them as the focal point of the video; that would just be too easy. I think, perhaps, the folks at Bungie are giving you that to lead you down a path of speculation that is incorrect.
The more I watch the trailer, and by now I have to have watched it a few dozen times and framed through it to catch certain details, there are lots of small clues scattered throughout the 60 second clip, enough to make me believe that it is more than just a drop ship game and we are marines again. It seems to take place on what is now the New Mombasa city and what is classified as a natural disaster has occurred and humanity has been instructed to evacuate.
My view from the teaser is that this may be a post apocalyptic view of the Flood being unleashed on humanity. You play as one of the citizens of Mombasa and try to stay alive in a city that is ravaged, with your only hope being the dropping pods. I would envision the game to be more like a survival horror game where you must survive and perhaps help the marines.
This may be a bit out there, but it would be more interesting than a straight marine game. This could play out almost like a Dead Rising style game where the zombies are the Flood. The clip also has some humor injected into it , which again leads me to believe that Bungie is almost laughing a bit behind the scenes. In the clip, the city seems to be resetting itself and the views are from security cameras around the city. Multiple languages scroll in the background and there are even some interesting flashes of text like: Please Excuse our Appearance, Obey Posted Limits and of course Keep it Clean.
The most important one that leads me to believe that the story is more focused on a survival style game is the message “Maddie where are you?” Perhaps you are a family man looking to find your loved ones and the shot where it looks to be raining pods could actually be debris from an exploding ship. I would love to see this as an apocalyptic thriller based in the world of Halo, something very different and unexpected.
Go against the expected! What do you think?

What if this is a continuation on Halo 3? What if this is the world shown at the end of the Legendary Halo 3 ending and Master Chief is arriving? What if the debris is the ship with Master Chief and Cortana exploding during entry? There’s a singular pod with a much different trajectory entering after the majority of pods arrive, indicating that whatever is in that pod or piece of debris has some significance.
That’s my 2 cents.

That Idea is really cool, i would love that to happen, but as its dlc for halo 3 (or so we know of, could be microsoft and bungie trying to throw us off and its actually a new game) im not sure that it would actually fit in with halo 3 that much.
But same could be said for playing as ODST, as they dont have any sheilds and dont have the agility as a spartan.
They would have to drastically alter the game to make it fit, all the gameplay mechanics that we know of will be different, and i just cant see that happening as DLC for Halo 3.

It cant be that, cause if you look closely it says New Mobassa (spelling?) and MC didnt get back to Earth (if you remember the Halo 3 Remember Adverts, that was set 50 years after the War, Master Cheif was still not back) and theres a covanent ship in the background of the trailer. (and the space elevator is still up)
My Opinion?
Its just Halo 2 campgain made into halo 3 with co-op and updated gameplay mechanics and graphics. OR its a prelude to halo 3 on earth (as after New Mobassa it was just on delta halo) so this could explain what happened on earth.
Just a thought, hopefully we will know more at TGS
