This year I have decided I want to be healthier so along with my shiny new red iPod, I picked up the “Nike + iPod sport kit”, this allows you to put a sensor in your Nike sneakers and connect it with your iPod Nano in order to track your run distance, time and calories burned. The system includes the sensor chip for your sneaker and the receiver that plugs into your iPod for $29.
The set up is child play, simple plug and play allows you to set up your workout through your iPod, upload your workout data to www.Nike.com (just set up a free account and you can track your stats) and even set up a “Power song”. The “Power song” is supposed to motivate you once you start getting tired, I think I hear a little “Eye of the Tiger” in my future. =)
You can even set up resolutions for the new year through the site and track your progress, I have set up a goal to run at least 10 times in the next 4 weeks, I think this is very doable, I’ll let you know how I do. You can also set up challenges between friends like, who will run faster, longer, etc. and track it online, since I am pathetically out of shape I think I will challenge small children first. Overall I am very happy with the system and it’s ease of use and interaction with my new iPod, now it’s time to start running.
