Old school arcade fun

Ever wonder what the old school arcade days might have looked like back in the day? I’m not talking about the days of Contra in the arcade, but more like the days of Pong and the real early classics. As a child of the 80’s I had seen plenty of arcades in my day, but I can’t say that I had ever seen the original Pong in working condition, well all of that changed on my latest tip to San Franciso, I stumbled across an old school arcade complete with old wooden games and fortune tellers. This as the eqivalt a video game hall of fame and I could d othin mre than to just snap pictures and yell out “holy shiet, I can’t believe they have this!”

Hit the jump for even more arcade classics.

The original Pole Position, a racing classic that set the stage for many racing games to come.

Robotron action in it’s original form, quite the throwback.

Sprint complete with original racing wheels, you have to respect the old crt monitors and all their glory.

Perhaps one of my favorite games ever growing up, Moon Patrol, so simple to play yet so complex to master. I pumped quite a few quarters into this bad boy.

And I rounded out my time at this living museum of video games with some classic hockey.

This was a great trip down memory lane, I can only hope more places would have these titles in working order to enjoy. If you are in the the San Francisco area I suggest dropping in on this place!

The Liberty Science Center in Jersey City had a big exhibit on classic video games a few years ago. I remember seeing the Pong Machine there. I also racked up the high score on their Pac-Man machine.
