Official Spanish Version of Madden 2008 Coming This December

The NFL is trying to expand their market into Latin America. This is prevalent with the recent Latino Appreciation Month Commercials and preseason games in Mexico City. There now is an official Spanish version of the game complete with new box art, soundtracks, commentary and more. Here is the official press release from EA Sports.

Electronic Arts Inc. announced today that Madden NFL 08 En Español will be available this December for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360™ video game system from Microsoft. Fully translated in Spanish, Madden NFL 08 en Español will feature San Diego Chargers defensive end Luis Castillo on the box cover. Madden NFL 08 en Español features exclusive Spanish language content, including additional music tracks, and Spanish play-by-play and game analysis voice-over.

“I am extremely proud to be selected as the cover athlete for Madden NFL 08 en Español,” said Castillo. “This illustrates the growing popularity of Madden and NFL football within the Spanish-speaking community.”

Castillo, a San Diego Chargers first round draft pick in 2005, ranked third on the team in sacks and was selected as a second-alternate to the AFC Pro Bowl last year. Castillo is from the Dominican Republic and speaks fluent Spanish, and he is only the second Dominican Republic player to be drafted and start in the NFL. In 2005, he was an All-Rookie Team selection by NFL.com, Pro Football Weekly and the Professional Football Writers of America.

Madden NFL 08 En Español is part of the NFL’s and NFL PLAYERS commitment to deliver customized content to a growing Hispanic fan base.

”We are pleased to partner with EA to bring fans Madden NFL 08 en Español, another innovative way to serve our fans,” says Mark Waller, NFL senior vice president of marketing and sales. “This customized version of Madden provides a fun and high-tech educational tool for our Spanish-speaking fans around the world. The game is a great way to introduce fans to the NFL, enabling them to understand and enjoy the game even more.”

Other ways the NFL reaches its Spanish-speaking fans include: NFLatino.com, NFL Monday Night Football on ESPN Deportes, NBC Sunday Night Football in Spanish via SAP, Univision Radio’s 30-game lineup, Telemundo specials surrounding Super Bowl XLII, as well as NFL coverage throughout the season on Telemundo’s weekly sports and entertainment shows.

Álvaro Martín, the first Spanish-language play-by-play broadcaster for ABC Sports’ “Monday Night Football, is featured as the broadcast voice of Madden NFL 08 en Español. Martín has an impressive broadcast background with experience as one of the top Spanish-language play-by-play announcers for ESPN International, with five NBA Finals, two World Series and six Super Bowls to his credit. Madden NFL 08 en Español will also feature three exclusive Spanish songs, “Los Que Luchamos” by Kinto Sol, “Blame Me” performed by Molotov and “Relax” by Maná, added to the Madden soundtrack.

Why couldn’t EA just release the Spanish content as a FREE download with a patch that lets you choose language at the beginning and thus changing the music, play-by-play, etc.?

Seriously, this needs to be a different game? They couldn’t just put the language option in there?

Is the Hispanic community really going to re-buy this? It’s 2 months after the release of the regular Madden, with no word this is coming. Most people who were going to buy this year’s Madden game already have. Bad timing on EA’s part, and stupid to not just include both languages in the same game

Ok, here is my personal feelings about this subject. If you can’t speak English or you have no intentions of learning it, then get out. I am not going to stand by and watch mostly illegal immagrants change our country. If you want to come to America and try to make a better life. Then good, I have no problem with that. But if you’re going to come into the country illegally, not learn the language, and send all our money back to your family’s in other countries, then I would do everything in my will to stop that. I did find one thing funny though. In the news they said most illegal immagrants actually pay their taxes. Funny isn’t it?

the intent i think is to push for more EA presence in other markets aside from North America. with the exception of FIFA all of their others title reign supreme only in NA. Peter Moore has been vocal about trying to get more of a worldwide impact and market share. Supposedly the voice dialogue was completely redone, so it isnt that they took Madden and translated it, they actually made a separate game to cater to other markets. I sitll think it wont do too well, If you look at the map that shows up when you play halo 3 you can se where the density of players are around hte world, majority are in NA, Europe and Asia, the rest of the world just doesnt have the numbers yet.

@ CJ - your comments are a bit off topic, but for the most part understandable, the sad part is that the “immigrants” are the ones doing the jobs the Americans don’t want to do and have become a vital part of the American economy.

Your points are valid, but you need to realize that the monolingual laborers are not the ones who can afford a system and games upward of 500 dollars. I think that its just to really spread the paradigms of American football into a game that the Latin Community can relate to on a personal basis. Why do I have the feeling you will not be picking this one up.

Yeah, day laborers and dishwashers probably won’t be shelling out $400-500 for a system and $60 for a game, because they have more pressing matters, like paying rent and putting a meal on the table for the kids.

I wonder, does the Spanish version of Madden have the English tracks in it? I haven’t bought a Madden title since 2006 (you know that stripped down Madden game with no franchise mode that came out with the 360, that was only good for the easy 1000 AP).

    @ Arrow:

I agree with your sentiments. On the other hand, not all Americans have anger inside. Wasn’t Uruguay where the plane of rugby players crashed and ate each other? The Movie was called “Alive”.
