Not content with drinking tons of beer in the real world, MapleStory is recreating the German festival in their online realm.
To take part in the event – which is open to everyone and can be participated in once a day for the duration of the promotion – players must deliver a hidden sample of ‘malt’ to MapleStory Europe’s ever present event-NPC Charles. Doing so rewards them with entry to an exciting new beer tent map, where they can enjoy a traditional, hearty German atmosphere of ale, sausages and lederhosen. By completing special objectives within the beer tent, such as fighting off a horde of red-faced, staggering monsters, players can win themselves special Oktoberfest themed items such a German sausage-shaped hat and power boosting mugs of (non-alcoholic!) beer. Players are also encouraged to collect empty beer glasses dropped by monsters, which in turn can be exchanged for special stat-enhancing food items.
Sounds like fun to me. MapleStory has added new features frequently over it’s life span, which definitely adds to the gameplay.

Why?! Why must people that play online shooters or online in general be jerks? Why can’t people just play the %ucking game and not try to give everyone a headache? My frustration stems from GRAW 2 on the Xbox 360 and trying to play over Xbox Live, but it got me thinking about this particular item.
I was playing through GRAW 2 single player and decided to hop online and try some of the multiplayer gametypes, bad idea! I proceeded to try and just get a quick game online using the quick match funtion. I quickly got booted. OK, so I think this is nothing and try another one after running a custom search. 15 games later of trying to get into a game and not get booted, I finally go back to one of the original rooms and try to ask why i keep getting booted for no reason? Answer: Becasue my rank was 1, wtf?? So I ask the kids on the other side (that were level 9) if they born level 9 perchance? How the %uck are people supposed to level up or learn how to play if higher players won’t play with them for fear of losing levels?
Correct me if I am wrong, but if you are so good and are such a high level, what would be your fear of playing with some low level players anyway? Also I wasn’t aware that your GRAW level was correlated with some life or death statistic?! I proceeded to go off and yell at the kids in the room and vent my frustrations, but it just brought me to a bad place, why must online games give me heart burn?
There is a closed beta now open for the new Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising that you can sign up for here. This MMORPG seems to have some nice potential and was something I was very much looking forward to. This looks to set you as a demi-god that rises and forms his/her own band of merry gods to fight classic mythical creatures in a quest for ultimate power. This sounds like a Roman Myth exploding into a video game, I wonder if Kid Icarus will put in a cameo?
From the press release:
Perpetual Entertainment announced today that aspiring heroes can now sign up for an exclusive opportunity - the chance to enter the closed beta playtest of the upcoming Roman mythology-based online game, Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising. With co-publishing partner, Platform Publishing, the San Francisco-based game developer recently launched a signup page where visitors can register for the chance to get access, play and provide feedback on the game during its final testing phase.
Just picture yourself running around casting Lego spells on other people. Does it get any better?
The guys over at iBricks, a site dedicated to all things Lego, have discovered the first in-game screenshot as well as some concept art from the new game.
From the iBricks forums:
The LEGO Group is working on a group of initiatives, which in the coming years will offer young and older LEGO fans all over the world new ways of play and experiences with the LEGO brand. The famous brick and the mini-figure will come to live in the virtual world.
The new LEGO Universe will combine gaming, building and the opportunity for social networking on the very same web page.
The whole development process is happening in tight synergy with the dedicated LEGO fans. The fans try out the ideas the professional game developers are creating.
According to the plans, the LEGO Universe will be to experience on-line for a larger group approx mid 2008.
Ultimately the LEGO Group want to offer the unique experience to play with the LEGO brick both virtually and physically together with your friends from all over the world, and you can even change from the physically to the virtual play as you like You are in control.
In an interview Id Software’s Todd Hollenshead, the Quake and Doom creator, talked about working on a new gaming franchise powered by a brand “new engine” from developer John Carmack. The interesting part is that the scope of this new game and engine was described as “it’s not Doom, it’s not Quake, it’s not Wolfenstein, it’s not Enemy Territory, it’s not even Commander Keen.” Shiet then what is it? We can only speculate that there could be a possible Doom/Quake inspired MMORPG, (when in doubt just speculate) what do you think?
So here is our latest weekly installment entitled the rumor mill, here will be the grand hall of speculation and rumors, so sit back and enjoy the conspiracy theories.
We will start off with a biggie, there are some rumors flying around about a World of Warcraft game hitting our next gen consoles some time in 2008. It is also rumored to be an entirely different game than the current versions made solely for the consoles titled World of Warcraft: Azeroth Adventures. That means this game will not be a PC port of Burning Crusades or the original and will be made from the ground up to utilize a controller as the main input. Think of the potential of having Azeroth played in HD, on your flat screen, in 5.1 surround sound over Xbox Live. This would fit in nicely with the newly developed and imminently launching keyboard input device.
How sweet the sound of a rogue in stealth ganking a noob on your 360. Blizzard why do you mock us and not release this already? This game could single handedly change the face of MMORPG for the consoles. Or you could just skip WoW and make us a Starcraft MMORPG for our consoles(giggles like a school girl!).
Looks like a version of Maple Story will be hitting the DS soon. No word yet if it will be Wifi compatable, but seeing as Maple Story for the PC is a free MMORPG, I would think the same should hold true for the DS version.
After playing many different MMORPG’s both PC and console based, the big 2 for myself being Phantasy Star Online and World of Warcraft, it amazes me how some people are just retarded. Let me explain some facts of MMORPG’s before you decide to delve into the black abyss of this genre:
These games are played typically by fairly bright players that become obsessed with leveling and finding items, which turns into an addiction and neglect of real life.
These games have been designed to be played with “strategy” as a key element, which means that a group needs to be functional, this means the healer must fucking heal, buff, etc. Man does it piss me off to hear of mage type characters trying to melee or tank characters trying to DPS.
If you are female and have a mic you can easily score free items from a bunch of lonely guys that have probably never spoken to a female before. Seriously, or just make a girl character and never speak.
Once people reach the level cap they become bored with the game, maybe you should have thought about that before you grinded for three days straight and maxed out your level so fast.
Also once people hit the higher levels they become an elitist and don’t give a shiet about helping others, they actually shun lower level characters and make them feel retarded for not knowing how to play yet.
People playing MMORPG’s with you are not your friends! They are just some people you meet online and play games with, which means they don’t give a shiet about you or your feelings. I have actually heard of people getting upset because they were not invited to groups, let it go stupid.
After logging in hundreds and hundreds of hours you still are no better off in the real world than you first started.
