E3 2008 Predictions - Microsoft

Loot Ninja Faceplate on my Xbox 360

E3 starts up Monday, and we figured we’ll throw out just what we think will happen. We’ll start with Microsoft, since they get to go first with their press conference. Here’s what each of us will think happens:

Matt - I have a strong feeling we’re going to hear about this price drop that everyone knows is coming. I’m guessing a $50 drop across the board on all SKU’s and the possible introduction of a 60GB SKU, maybe replacing the current 20GB Premium. I also think we’ll see the first signs a redesigned dashboard, some new casual gaming innovations (Avatars, Newton, etc), as well as the announcement of a new Halo game without Master Chief.

Al - I think MS may put int he works or at least plant the seed for BluRay on their console. Motion controller could be a possibility or even a new handheld device via a zune like game system. Price drop will not be discussed I think, this will be saved for after E3.

Steve - There will be some kind of announcement about a new Bungie product and more specifically something in the Halo-verse. Could it be Marathon or a Halo game sans Master Chief? Could be the new Peter Jackson project? Expect something huge here. I also expect some new MS tech to be shown such as the motion controller.

Check back Monday afternoon to find out if we’re right

I think MS will concentrate on their motion sensing device/controller, and they will continue to push their download service for videos, not blu-ray. If a price drop is their highlight for E3, I wouldn’t be at all surprised.

Tthere’s an entire Halo universe, not just Master Chief. There are actually hundreds of Spartans over time, in both the Spartan II and Spartan III programs.

I’d love to see a co-op game with Blue Team.

Supposedly the Halo books have a great story. Too bad they didn’t put that story in the games.

Yeah they definitely do. Me and Scuba are big fans of the books. I’ve read four, he’s read all five.

I’m more into reading horror than sci fi, but I’ve been thinking about picking this series up.

MS have denied at times about a motion sensing controller and mostly say they don’t comment on rumors, but I won’t be surprised if the motion sensing controller is announced. Word about Sony working a motion sensing controller is surfacing too.

On that last bit I meant a more specific motion sensing controller other than what Sony has with the Dual Shock.

MS denied motion sensing at first but then moved to a no comment stance. They are 100% adamant about no blu ray. I don’t think Sony needs a dedicated motion sensing controller. The Dual Shock 3 is good enough for me.

They are showing Halo Wars for sure because it should be coming out soon. The motion senser controller would be good for Halo wars due to moving across the map so tilt the controller and youll be moving and ordering your units like a pro in no time.
