Just in time for it’s August 21st release date in North America, Take Two announced today that BioShock for the Xbox 360 and PC has gone Gold. Europe will see the game released on August 24th.
Players enter the game as a castaway in Rapture, an underwater utopia torn apart by civil war. Caught between powerful forces and hunted down by genetically modified “splicers” and deadly security systems, players have to come to grips with a dangerous and mysterious world filled with powerful technology and fascinating characters. With multiple avenues for surmounting challenges on both a moral and tactical level, no encounter ever plays out the same and no two gamers will play BioShock the same way.
Start prepping for what could be the best FPS game of the year. Yes, even better than Halo 3.
Take Two just sent out a press release announcing the new name for one of it’s subsidiary companies, Irrational Games. From this day forth, the creators of BioShock will be known as 2K Boston and 2K Australia (for each of their two offices).
Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), announced today the name change of industry leading development studio Irrational Games to 2K Boston and 2K Australia. Headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts and with offices in Canberra, Australia, Irrational Games is an internationally renowned developer of story-driven, genre-defining games with award-winning hits like System Shock 2, Freedom Force, Tribes: Vengeance, and SWAT 4. The name changes to 2K Boston and 2K Australia symbolize the studios’ further integration into the 2K Games family following their outstanding performance on BioShock™, the upcoming blockbuster available exclusively for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system and Games For Windows on August 21, 2007 in North America and in Europe beginning August 24, 2007.
I wish they didn’t ahve to take a great name like Irrational Games and simplify it down in the 2K brand. But hey, the 2K brand needs to bolster it’s image, so this will certainly help them in that matter.
There are actually some rather large names on here coming up by the end of the year and next year. I hadn’t realized just how many titles Take Two was involved with, between GTA, All-Pro Football 2k8, Bioshock and Manhunt 2 alone their plates are way full.

Your pals at Loot Ninja got some pretty new screenshots today for BioShock. Trust me, they’re better than the Half-Life 2 screens.
The game is looking very polished, and should provide hours of underwater fun when it’s released this summer. Hell, probably more underwater fun than the Snorks.
If you make a game based in an underwater city, the water effects better look damn good. Well, in BioShock, they do. Check out this trailer showing all the cool nuances of how water moves around in the game.
2K Games let us know the contents of the Limited Edition version BioShock for the Xbox 360 and PC.
The Limited Edition will include a Big Daddy figurine, a “Making Of” DVD, and a soundtrack CD. The packaging will also be an embossed graphic designed by the winner of ther Cover Art Contest.
The LE will run you $59.99 for the PC version and $69.99 for the Xbox 360 version. Why do console games need to cost more than their PC counterparts?
2kGames is having an art design contest giving one lucky, talented gamer instant fame by allowing them to design the box cover art for Bioshock: Limited Edition. We all know that this game is going to be HUGE, granted they have had enough time to complete it, but click on the link above and read all about the in’s and out’s. What they are looking for is anyone’s guess, but take a look, this could be your big break.
We're like Spaceballs... we're making Loot Ninja everything. Coming soon we'll have hats, shirts, hoodies, possibly banana hammocks if one Editor has his way...
