I’m saying this once more: these songs BETTER come out for the 360. Or RedOctane needs to come out with a guitar that will work for the PS3. I MUST PLAY THIS!

Here’s a video showing the full song of Turning Japanese as made famous by The Vapors. Must. Get. Game.

GH 80’s

We have been keeping an eye on this one as we are thoroughly hooked on anyhitng GH. Reported pre-order boxes for the upcoming PS 2 version of Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks The 80’s has has given us a glimpse at more tracks. I have to say that I would like to hear some Prince guitar riffs also, especially from the 80’s maybe a lil When Doves Cry and maybe a special edition guitar controller would be sweet? But here is the list so far, which will include:

Anthrax - Caught In A Mosh
Iron Maiden - Wrathchild
.38 Special - Hold on Loosely
White Lion - Radar Love
Scorpions - No One Like You
The Vapors - Turning Japanese (This is a hilarious song)
Winger - Seventeen

GH 80’sIn case you wanted to lock up your copy of Guitar Hero encore: Rock the 80’s for the PS2, here is your chance, you also get a free t-shirt with the pre-order.

You can also check out the lineup of songs and listen clips of the tracks here. You gotta love the cover picture with the hair band look alikes, I wonder if they will bring this to the 360 as downloadable content, that would be sweet.

atari-2600.jpgLast week, Cnet released its opinion of what the Top 5 Video Game Controllers of All Time are. I have to be honest, I do not agree with their list whatsoever.

You can link above to the full article, but here is their list.

Update: The list seems to be in no order whatsoever, but feel free to rank them as you see fit or give us an entirely new list as some readers already have.

Xbox360 Controller

PS2 Controller

N64 Controller

SNES Controller

Atari 2600 Joystick

Sweet list guys, you basically picked a controller from each generation. Granted the Atari got it all started, but come on. That thing was so fragile, it would break every time I jumped in Moon Patrol. As far as the SNES, didn’t that evolve from that NES thing that came out in the 80’s? I remember reading how the N64 controller was the worst idea since poop flavored lollipops when it was first released, yet it cracks the top 3. Someone should tell these people that were other systems out there. Intellivision, Colecovision, I mean the Xbox controller was almost a rip from the Atari Jaguar minus the stupid keys. Let us know what you think so we can make a respectable list.

PS3 Firmware Update v1.80 Coming

drunk pandas | 1 Comment

PS3 Horizontal ImageSony today dropped some gems on us. A new PS3 firmware update is coming, making it to version 1.80.

SCEE announced today in London that the new firmware update, available May 24th, will include DVD and PS1/PS2 upscaling up to 1080p, as well as media streaming from PCs on your LAN.

All I can say is HOLY SHIT. Sony just threw everything they had in the ring and brought it hard. I can’t wait to try out these new features tomorrow.

Stay tuned as a full changelog is released.

Guitar Hero 3 Officially Announced

drunk pandas | 1 Comment

Guitar Hero 3 Logo

Activision dropped a little press release today to detail all the new features in their upcoming Guitar Hero 3 for the PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii. The game is being developed by our good friends at RedOctane in association with Neversoft (since Harmonix has moved on to Rock Band).

There’s going to be 2 new guitar models coming, one based on the Gibson Les Paul, and another on a Kramer guitar (which will be PS2 exclusive). Not only that, but every system will be getting wireless guitar controllers. (This is where you see me regretting my purchase of 2 wired guitars for 360…).

From the press release:

While continuing to retain all the key features from their prior legendary performances, fresh downloadable content will be offered on multiple platforms, and players can now shred to a killer set list from many of the gnarliest rock songs ever recorded. Delivering more master tracks than ever before, strategic partnerships have been secured with all the major and independent music record labels and publishers to allow unrivaled access to their deep history of music catalogs, along with supplying artists’ original recordings for even greater authenticity.

So it looks like we’ll get more real songs and less cover band versions. Works for me.

Guitar Hero II Screen

We brought you the first tracks announced for the new PS2 expansion, Guitar Hero Encore: Rock the 80s. Now, we bring you the next batch. Here’s 7 new songs to wet your appetite.

  • 18 and Life (as made famous by Skid Row)
  • Bathroom Wall (as made famous by Faster Pussycat)
  • Lonely is the Night (as made famous by Billy Squier)
  • Nothing But a Good Time (as made famous by Poison)
  • Play With Me (as made famous by Extreme)
  • Shaken (as made famous by Eddie Money)
  • Synchronicity II (as made famous by Police)

These tracks are much better than the first batch. I mean, there’s some Billy Squier and Poison in there. Here’s to hoping this shows up on other platforms… or Sony and RedOctane somehow make a guitar work with the PS3.

We’ve all seen this kid shred some mean Guitar Hero before. Now we get to see one of his early videos, playing Jordan on Expert on the PS2 version of Guitar Hero II. Not his best performance, but damn does he got some skills.

Remember, if you want to get as good as this kid, enter our Guitar Hero II contest to win a free copy of the game for Xbox 360. You don’t need the game to enter!
