DOOMIn an interview Id Software’s Todd Hollenshead, the Quake and Doom creator, talked about working on a new gaming franchise powered by a brand “new engine” from developer John Carmack. The interesting part is that the scope of this new game and engine was described as “it’s not Doom, it’s not Quake, it’s not Wolfenstein, it’s not Enemy Territory, it’s not even Commander Keen.” Shiet then what is it? We can only speculate that there could be a possible Doom/Quake inspired MMORPG, (when in doubt just speculate) what do you think?

Here’s an interview with the development team on Resistance: Fall of Man about the new Map Pack that is supposedly coming out in May. I’m guessing it’s going to be pushed back until June, since we haven’t heard anything yet.

The maps looks really cool, but $7.99 for 2 maps? Someone needs to stop taking a cue from Microsoft and some of the crap on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Heavenly Sword Developer Interview

drunk pandas | 1 Comment

PlayStation Universe got a chance to sit down with Heavenly Sword Producer Kyle Shubel to discuss some details on the upcoming game.

Some of the bigger points from the interview:

  • More advanced cutscene animation than Lord of the Rings movies or King Kong
  • No multiplayer, HOME support is likely
  • Demo is planned, probably before release
  • The game will run at 720p at a constant 30fps
  • The question about the length of single player campaign was semi-dodged, leading to the impression it will be fairly short
  • Fall 07 release date

I’m looking forward to this game for the PS3 this fall. Every new screenshot or video that comes out just keeps looking better and better.

marvel-and-sega.jpgLoot-ninja brought you this article 2 weeks ago about Sega adding some of Marvel’s beloved characters. Now, we get an explanation. Our friends at Gamespot.com bring you this candid interview on the rationale behind signing these characters and more importantly what they plan to do with them. Enjoy!

SIXAXIS Will Soon Rumble

drunk pandas | 3 Comments

SIXAXIS Controller Image

KillZone Unit had a nice Q&A session with David Karraker, the PR wizard at Sony Computer Entertainment America.

Most notable about the session was Karraker saying that Sony is “currently in discussions with Immersion on how we can incorporate their technologies into our products” (read: rumble in SIXAXIS).

This is terrific news for PS3 users who want rumble with their next-gen gaming. Hopefully we’ll see this before the end of the year, with all PS3 games supporting rumble.

Guitar Hereo II ImageI spent the better part of today at Virgin Megastore in Times Square for the Guitar Hero II event sponsored by Microsoft. The event starred 5 lucky contestants who played it out for a chance to rock with Gene Simmons of KISS.

The event started off strong with the 5 contestants each playing their choice of song on expert difficulty to see who could rack up the most points. Congrats goes to JW from Texas who put up an impressive 330k points playing Possum Kingdom by Toadies. A close second was Matt from Texas who scored 320k points playing Iron Maiden’s The Trooper.

Interview: TriXie

drunk pandas | 2 Comments

TriXie Xbox.com Artwork 2I had a chance to speak recently with TriXie, of Xbox fame, about all things video gaming. For those of you who don’t know her, TriXie is the Community Manager at Xbox, and an Zuma fanatic (could be an understatement).

Thanks to all our readers who submitted questions through comments, email, IM, etc. We tried to ask as many as we could.

We want to thank TriXie for allowing us to speak with her! Check out the interview below…

drunk pandas: A lot of our readers are looking to get into the video game industry. Can you explain your role as the Xbox Community Manager and how you got into the video game industry?

TriXie: I got into the industry by accident. I was writing smartass editorials for my college newspaper and saw an ad for a gaming magazine looking for ‘edgy’ writing. So that’s how I ended up working as an Assistant Editor for Sierra On-Line’s InterAction magazine. I actually left school when they offered me the job, but it was all worth it. From there I wrote packaging and advertising, and then came to Xbox. I sort of stumbled into Community stuff because I had a lot of interaction with the Xbox gamers in writing Gamer Spotlights. So maybe I’m not the right person to give advice on getting into gaming. I didn’t try to at all. I wanted to write the Great American Novel!
