Mortal Kombat: Armageddon for the Wii comes a full 10 months after its Xbox and PS2 counterparts, but packs some innovative gameplay mechanics with a cool new character to give some added depth to the game. After seeing all the lead-in videos about the controls, I was anxiously waiting for this game to come. Here is the breakdown of some of the facets of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon for the Wii:
Presentation and Graphics: The Xbox version of the game supported 720p graphics which looked very crisp on a high definition display. Unfortunately, the Wii is not capable at this point of outputting anything over 480p, so the level of detail in the game is roughly the same as the PS2 version. However, the game does perform at a constant 60 frames per second at 480p widescreen, which is a huge plus for any game, but fighting games especially. The presentation of the game is terrific. You use the Wii-mote to point on the screen to an option or to choose your character. This works very well and makes character selection a bit quicker than just using a d-pad. Otherwise, it’s standard Mortal Kombat fare as far as the presentation goes. 4 of 5
Vivendi Games announced the return of everyone’s favorite hero coming out of retirement and into your mobile phone… Leisure Suit Larry. The game slated to be named Leisue Suit Larry: Love for Sail will be available in Europe in early June and then will come state side in September.
I have a soft spot in my heart for Larry Laffer, a.k.a. Leisure Suit Larry from his glory days in the 80’s on my Apple IIC. Larry always packed in some great crude humor and had decent gameplay, how great would it be to see a good version of Larry spawn on a next generation console!? I say bring back the mature rated games and let’s start with Leisure in HD. Until then we just need to get it on our cell phone.
In an interview Id Software’s Todd Hollenshead, the Quake and Doom creator, talked about working on a new gaming franchise powered by a brand “new engine” from developer John Carmack. The interesting part is that the scope of this new game and engine was described as “it’s not Doom, it’s not Quake, it’s not Wolfenstein, it’s not Enemy Territory, it’s not even Commander Keen.” Shiet then what is it? We can only speculate that there could be a possible Doom/Quake inspired MMORPG, (when in doubt just speculate) what do you think?
To go along with all the updates the PS3 received last week, the PSP is getting some update love, bringing it’s status to version 3.50.
The major new additions to this firmware are to allow Remote Play of the PS3 over the internet and a new RSS Channel Guide to organize your feeds on your PSP.
Being able to access your PS3 over the internet is crazy cool. Just think about it… you’re away at work and hear of a new amazing demo released. Just fire up your PSP and hit a WiFi access point, connect to your PS3, open the PlayStation Store and start the download. Not only that, but how about watching all your streaming media content over the internet anywhere in the world? Sounds pretty damn good to me.
Screw Mike Tyson. Forget Mr. Dream who replaced him. For Punch Out, you need the real deal. Who should fill those shoes? None other than the King of Pop himself.
Michael Jackson takes a swing at things in this terrific user created video where you get to fight as Macaulay Culkin.
In case you wanted to lock up your copy of Guitar Hero encore: Rock the 80’s for the PS2, here is your chance, you also get a free t-shirt with the pre-order.
You can also check out the lineup of songs and listen clips of the tracks here. You gotta love the cover picture with the hair band look alikes, I wonder if they will bring this to the 360 as downloadable content, that would be sweet.
This is one crazy rhythm game, it’s ike Boom Boom Rocket but upside down. Check out how this guy just rocks this out with no problem, reminds me of a scene from Tokyo Drift.
