Activision sent over word that the PC demo for Call of Duty 4 is now available. Click here for a list of mirrors to grab the demo. You’ll have to register for the site to get to the list, so be prepared.
We brought you the system requirements earlier, so check up on them here to make sure you’ve got the horsepower to give this baby what it deserves.
Activision sent over word today that a single player demo of Call of Duty 4 is expected this week. The demo will be released (with a full mirror download list) on CallofDuty.com later this week.
Can your PC handle the new title? Here’s the minimum specs for the game:
CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 2.4 GHz or AMD(R) Athlon(TM) 64 2800+ processor or any 1.8Ghz Dual Core Processor or better supported
RAM: 512MB RAM (768MB for Windows Vista)
Harddrive: 8GB of free hard drive space
Video card (generic): NVIDIA(R) Geforce(TM) 6600 or better or ATI(R) Radeon(R) 9800Pro or better
Those are the minimum specs. Just like other upcoming games, this requires a lot of power. I’ll be sticking with the console version. Recommended specs after the jump.
Microsoft sent out a press release saying that Games for Windows LIVE will be getting an update to v1.2 sometime in November.
The Games for Windows – LIVE v1.2 update will continue to add numerous end-user benefits to the service, such as support for offline Achievements, so gamers can continue to rack up Gamerscore when not connected to the internet, the ability to see whether your friends are “joinable” in games, along with additional UI features.
Microsoft is pushing out updates on a good schedule here. I think the problem still is that only gamers with both an Xbox 360 and PC are going to pay for LIVE. Strict PC gamers aren’t going to start dropping $50 a year for something they can do for free anyway.
Activision sent over a new interview video with the development team behind Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars. The video showcases the team play elements of the game.
QUAKE Wars is hitting retail shelves today, so get ready for some PC battle action.
At Digital Life this weekend, we got a chance to sit down with Adam Mersky of the development team at Turbine who works on Lord of the Rings Online. We talked about the general aspects of the game as well as new features in the upcoming Book 11 update.
If you’re not familiar with the game, Lord of the Rings Online allows you to immerse yourself in the Tolkien universe as a member of one of the main races in the game. You interact through a storyline that takes place during the Lord of the Rings books. You’ll get to meet up with Frodo, Sam, Aragorn, and even Gandolf. The game is much more about exploration than player vs player combat, unlike many other MMO’s out there.
Adam walked up through the updates in Book 11 and what we can expect from the game in the coming months. The update will bring housing to the game for yourself and your kinship. You’ll be able to settle down in a town with your kinship and create your own house and yard and decorate it to your pleasure. Each player can own one house, but anyone in the world can visit your home. You can give other players permissions to make changes in your house, so don’t be surprised if you come home and find your walls a different color. The options for changing the interior of your house are very simple, and each element can be changed on a room by room basis. You can add many different types of furniture and artwork to each room. If you want to add a stone troll head on your wall as a trophy, it’s there for you to put up. Pricing for housing and different items will be determined in the next few weeks as development wraps up on the update.
Here’s the second video EA sent over today for Hellgate: London. This is the first in their series of “Tube Tours”. This first tour shows off some of the locations you play through in the first five Acts of the game.
EA sent over the first of two videos of Hellgate: London to show the quest design of the game. From the press release:
Video demonstrates two in-game quests. The first is designed to play like a real-time strategy game where the player is given orders to take control of a unit and the second is where players take control of a turret to take out spectral minions from the sky above.
EA released, and then later retracted, the minimum system requirements for the upcoming PC hit Crysis. Unless these requirements are going up, I don’t see why they would be retracted.

These really aren’t that bad. My laptop can probably run the game, but not that well. I have an ATI Radeon Mobility x1400 (256mb). We’ll see how it goes when the game ships later this year.
Spore sounds to be one of the upcoming great titles for PC gamers. I recently spoke to a product manager at EA who had a chance to get his hands on with the early build and he expressed nothing but joy for playing through the first level. You start off as a single celled animal that needs to grow and evolve, soon enough you are big enough to begin eating other smaller creatures and so SPore goes on. Having this for the consoles would be great, come on Will Wright show us some console love?
Not content with drinking tons of beer in the real world, MapleStory is recreating the German festival in their online realm.
To take part in the event – which is open to everyone and can be participated in once a day for the duration of the promotion – players must deliver a hidden sample of ‘malt’ to MapleStory Europe’s ever present event-NPC Charles. Doing so rewards them with entry to an exciting new beer tent map, where they can enjoy a traditional, hearty German atmosphere of ale, sausages and lederhosen. By completing special objectives within the beer tent, such as fighting off a horde of red-faced, staggering monsters, players can win themselves special Oktoberfest themed items such a German sausage-shaped hat and power boosting mugs of (non-alcoholic!) beer. Players are also encouraged to collect empty beer glasses dropped by monsters, which in turn can be exchanged for special stat-enhancing food items.
Sounds like fun to me. MapleStory has added new features frequently over it’s life span, which definitely adds to the gameplay.
