Gamerscore - Why So Much Hate?

drunk pandas | 0 Comments

Xbox 360 Ring GreenThis story comes from my friend Y2J2K. While in a discussion in the MLB 2K7 forum on Xbox.com, people began to flame the hell out of him and anyone else with a high gamerscore. For starters, a “high gamerscore” is all relative. Having a high gamerscore doesn’t mean you play 360 games all day long. It also doesn’t mean you cheat to get there. Y2J2K wrote up a long but terrific letter to all the haters out there.

There have been some harsh comments directed to me in this and other threads but I have chosen to ignore them specifically and have not lashed back out t anyone. My only previous comment was basically the point I am making here which is a gamerscore does not define anyone and to make assumptions and conclusions about someone based on something as meaningless as a gamerscore is just plain ignorant. Yes, I just said gamerscore is meaningless which one might find amusing coming from someone with a high gamerscore (note I am not claiming my gamerscore is high but that seems to be the conclusion everyone else here is coming to so I might as well acknowledge it – again I have never nor would ever brag about my gamerscore).

I agree with essentially every point Y2J2K makes. Why have we, as gamers, become a group of haters? Anything different does not need to be shit on.

What Does Your GamerTag Say About You?

drunk pandas | 0 Comments

Games Radar has an article about the psychological backgrounds for choosing what do for gamertags. Does yours mean you’re a sexual deviant, a sociopath, or something else you don’t even want to think about? Are you looking for attention or approval? Or just looking for somewhere to hide in the miscellaneous world of the intarweb? Whatever your reasoning, there is always a good reason why you chose your gamertag. I mean, DonkeyBalls69 didn’t just hit some random characters.

It’s a good read, so check it out.

Since my gamertag revolves around an animal, this is what the site has to say about me:

these tags tend to be some of the more creative and use some of the best humor

Well, that about hits it right. The actual source of my gamertag was hanging around drunk one night. I asked a friend what would be a cool new gamertag, because I was tired of my original gamertag from the days of the Xbox Live Beta. He said “wouldn’t it be hilarious to see on the screen ‘You were head-shot by a group of drunk pandas’?”. I found it intriguing, and shot over to the Xbox v1 (this was pre-360) to see what I could come up with. Due to size restrictions, it had to get shrunk to drunk pandas, but it still invokes a good level of laughter when you see that on the screen.

What do your gamertags mean? Let us know in the comments.

South Park in HD Coming to Xbox 360

drunk pandas | 0 Comments

South Park Ninja ButtersKeep an eye on the Xbox 360’s Video Marketplace come Tuesday, because there’s some FREE juicy South Park in HD. It’s an older show, commonly referred to as “South Park Ninjas” (officially titled Good Times With Weapons). It’s personally one of my favorites. Gotta love a kid getting a throwing star stuck in his eye. Haha. Anyway, the content will be free for “all” Xbox Live members for a 2 weeks period. We put “all” in quotes because of the recent hi-jinx with delaying content for Silver members. Keep an eye out on Tuesday and grab this free episode. Fun will be had by all

New Too Human Screens

drunk pandas | 0 Comments

Too Human Box Art RenderIGN posted some new screens from Too Human the other day. I originally really wanted this game, thinking it would be a great God of War style hack and slash kind of game, based in a nice sci-fi world. Then E3 2006 came along, and the game looked like absolute crap. The graphics weren’t great, the gameplay was shit, and the framerate was about 4 fps. It was just a debacle for developer Silicon Knights. Since that time, they’ve gone back to the drawing board and reworked the game from the ground up. It’s starting to look like it’s going to turn out how everyone first expected. Since we know this will be a trilogy, we can only hope that the game engine gets coded well enough that the games will provide hours of enjoyment for everyone.

Hit the jump for the new screens…

How to Make a Purchase from the PlayStation Store

drunk pandas | 0 Comments

Penny Arcade GabePenny Arcade posted a terrific tutorial on how to make a purchase from the PlayStation Store, detailing their experience with purchasing Tekken 5. I have to say, it’s spot on. Sometimes they take things over the top for comic effect, the honestly, this is spot on. It’s way too complicated a process to buy something on there.

I remember buying fl0w took me FOREVER. Not only are the download times slow, but you have to approve things, click here, click there. Ugh. I hope they streamline the PlayStation Store sometime in the very near future. I know they have a lot planned for the PS3 with upcoming firmware updates. I really think this streamlining should make it’s way up the list, along with regularly adding new, good content to the store.

Watch 300 Trailers, Win Free Crackdown

drunk pandas | 0 Comments

300 Small PicMicrosoft has teamed up with Warner Brothers to sponsor a contest involving the new bloody gladiator movie, 300. There’s 5 videos on the Xbox Marketplace, (2 trailers, 3 behind-the-scenes journals) that all have a special code at the end. So go download the free clips, watch the videos, then visit the contest website to enter. There will be 300 winners (ironic?) who will all get a free copy of Crackdown.

I gotta say, Microsoft is marketing the hell out of Crackdown. And it’s definitely worth it. I’m hoping 300 lives up the hype, because I watch the trailers on the Marketplace at least every couple days. I’ve been looking forward to this movie for months. Can’t wait until it gets released on March 9th.

PS3 gets a Rumble?

taz8080 | 1 Comment

SIXAXIS ControllerSony Computer Entertainment and Immersion Corporation have agreed to settle their differences in regards to their patent feud over Rumble technology on PlayStation controllers. The two companies have agreed to enter into an agreement, which would allow for Immersion Technology to be incorporated into Sony PlayStation products. So what does this mean for us gamers? Probably that you will see a new version of the Six-axis controller come out very soon with a rumble feature and that everyone that bought a current PS3 got screwed on the controllers. Maybe they can make the whole console shake?
