If you grabbed a copy of Knocked Up on HD-DVD and are having troubles with the Xbox 360 HD-DVD player and getting this disc to even load, you’re not the only one. I spent a good hour tonight trying to get this disc to play, including a return trip to Best Buy because I thought I got a crap disc. I finally found a solution over at AVS Forum. The people over there are amazing.
Go to the System blade
Go down and select Memory
Go down and Select HD Player (NOT Hard Drive)
Go down to the bottom entry. More than likely, it will be the largest entry in the list. When the cookie is fully downloaded, it will be 11 MB in size. When I checked for the cookie, it was 1MB in size (at the time i stopped the download). [for me, it was the first in the list, but I deleted all entries in the HD-DVD drive]
When you have found the entry, DELETE IT.
Retry starting the movie and wait for the loading screen. When you see it, you will know you have succeeded.
Once you do that, the disc should load up fine and come to a loading screen where it will sit for about 10 minutes. Do NOT hit Cancel, because that will just mess up the cookie download, which will bring you back to the same point of the disc not playing.
Seriously, if either of the HD disc formats wants to win the format war, they need to stop making things so damn complicated for the average user.
We had a reader review for skate for the Xbox 360 sent in by Schwing007. Good review, so read on my friends…
Having played skate. since its debut nearly every day exclusively (Bungie did release a game of some importance recently), a fact keeps occurring to me every time I put down my wireless controller: I still have things to learn, I can’t frickin’ wait.
Having played every Tony Hawk game since its inception so many moons ago( along with countless clones), skateboarding games had finally settled into their own dusty corner of the shelf of innovation, being blown upon occasionally with tweaked control schemes and online options. You knew what to expect is what I’m saying.
So along comes this EA skateboarding game which didn’t seem like….anything, really. Looking at the screens and videos, I was expecting just another TH clone with an inconsequential twist. Until I had the chance to play the demo.
Presentation and Graphics: Hockey games have the ability to look very good because the ice surface can really shine. NHL 08 may be the finest looking hockey game to date. At a very nice 1080i, the player models look outstanding. The faces are a little hard to see on account of the helmets, but they do make a very strong resemblance, especially the big names. EA games have always had easy to control menus and this game is no different. The goalie animation has been upped this year. The new uniforms really look superb with the new Reebok designs. The crowds also look really good. 4.25 of 5Hit the jump for more…
With the new release of Project Gotham Racing 4 comes a slew of brand new achievements, 50 to be exact worth 1,000 points, for every red blooded achievement whore to drool over. But the one that really caught my attention was the one where you need to buy a gamer picture?!
29. Buy an Achievement - Buy the K1,000,000 gamer picture to earn this Achievement. - 20 points
Ok, Achievement points have come in all shapes and sizes, some with great honor, others with shameless promotion, but now an achievement for buying something?! This is ridiculous! You get an achievement for spending money on something worthless. It is a pretty shameless way for Microsoft to make more money off of their gamerpics by forcing someone who actually wants to get all of the gamerpoints for this game to buy something they never wanted in the first place.
::Edit:: the money isn’t real money, but in game kudos, I take the finger pointing away from MS and smile. But it still is an interesting achievement and would have been pretty interesting if MS charged real money for it.
Many arguments have been waged discussing whether achievement points add to Xbox 360 games or if they just force people to play different parts of the games they wouldn’t have normally. What can we expect next? Achievement for sending angry voice messages to your friends list, points for sending a picture of your genitals or better yet send Microsoft a bag of money get 100 points! What do you think and what crazy non-sensical achievements can you think of?
Microsoft today released word that the Halo 3 franchise has topped off $300 million in sales since launch. MS have dubbed it the “fastest-selling video game ever and already one of the most successful entertainment properties in history.” This is hard to argue with as the boys at Bungie and MS really marketed it well and made sure everyone got a taste of the hype train. Kudos boys.
There is one part of the press release I don’t agree with, where MS states “Xbox 360 has the greatest lineup in the history of video games and is the only console where consumers can play all the year’s biggest blockbusters.” I think this is far too over zealous to state, the lineup is looking good, but the best in history, wow that is a tough call.
There have been some great lineups in the days of the NES, Xbox, PS1 and 2, which paved the way for what we have today in video games. MS has definitely the bankroll to show for their current success, which is also attributed to the fact that video gaming in the years of old was more of a underground cult, where gamers were a minority. Today video games have become a huge industry and I doubt we will diminish in size as all those kids that played the old consoles are now grown up and spending their hard earned money on games. I think their best in “history” is a bit over the top and minimalizes what the other older consoles have done to get games to this point.
It is impressive that about one third of all Xbox 360 owners have gotten a copy of Halo 3, I actually figured this statistic to be higher and will probably reach a lot more people during the holidays.
From the press releasse:
REDMOND, Wash. — Oct. 4, 2007 — Interactive entertainment will never be the same, with the launch of one title that has changed the way the world thinks about video games. “Halo® 3” has captured the attention of consumers worldwide and has made history as one of the biggest entertainment launches of all time. EA sent over a video which details the co-op aspects of Army of Two. The game was built from the ground up to utilize co-op, and it really does a good job.
I can’t wait for this game to drop in November.

In the weekly Bungie update, Luke Smith confirmed that Halo 3 does in fact run at 640p natively, which is then scaled up by the Xbox 360 to every resolution it supports. Luke let everyone know the reason for this lower resolution: the lighting engine. To keep up with a good frame rate and still have their HDR (high dynamic range) lighting system, Bungie had to make the game run in two buffers of 1152×640, a very unconventional resolution.
This ability to display a full range of HDR, combined with our advanced lighting, material and postprocessing engine, gives our scenes, large and small, a compelling, convincing and ultimately “real” feeling, and at a steady and smooth frame rate, which in the end was far more important to us than the ability to display a few extra pixels. Making this decision simpler still is the fact that the 360 scales the “almost-720p” image effortlessly all the way up to 1080p if you so desire.
I sat down and ran through the demo of Geon: Emotions for the Xbox Live Arcade this week. The game has a cool premise, but just doesn’t deliver, in my opinion.Geon plays like Pac-Man on crack. You go through all kinds of 3D maps with loops and different levels picking up dots. Yeah, you move around picking up dots. Once you collect enough dots, you hit the X button to flip to your opponent’s side of the map and race to the middle to score a goal. This goes on until one of you gets to 5 goals to win the match. There are various power-ups in each game, with each having a distinct effect. One allows you take away dots from your opponent, others allow you to attach an opponent through the map. Each one has a different effect depending on which Emotion you choose to begin the game. There are pros and cons to each Emotion, so you have to choose which works best for your playing style. I couldn’t figure out a playing style other than move around and get dots, so it just matters which power-ups you like best.I can’t see spending $10 on this game. It doesn’t offer enough depth, even for an arcade game, to keep me coming back. I think I’ll pass.
