Red PS3It looks like during a recent demo of Unreal Tournament III at the Edinburgh Interactive festival a very peculiar item was uncovered, known only as the Gamercard. The folks at Epic quickly covered it up by stating “Oops!”.

One can speculate pretty quickly and with certainty that this is an attempt by SONY to take a step towards the tried and true GamerTags that MS currently uses over their Xbox LIVE networks. I think it is a great idea and can’t wait to see it in action. We can only hope that Nintendo thinks of something similar and does away with those awful Friend Codes.

Schizoid Video -XBLA

taz8080 | 1 Comment

Developed using XNA Games Studio Express and coming soon to the Xbox LIVE marketplace, this game resembles Geomatry Wars a bit. From the video it is a bit confusing what the point is or what is going on, other than the level was cleared and they had ten lives left. It looks interesting and it is nice to see XNA getting a bit of exposure but this video is confusing at best and doesn’t really show us anything. For some reason this seems to be a running trend over at Gametrailers, the last few weeks have been plagued with artsy or psychodelic videos on video games, this and Katamari to name a few.

Hexic 2This Wednesday August 15, Xbox LIVE arcade will get two more games to add to it’s collection: Hexic 2 (800 MS points) and Ecco the Dolphin (400 MS points). Ecco is a classic SEGA title where the main character is… you guessed it a dolphin. Other than having decent graphics for it’s time Ecco was an undersea explorer with little bite, so unless you are a huge dolphin fan check out the demo first.

On the other hand the highly addictive Hexic 2 game should be quite interesting, in case you don’t recall this is the game that came pre-loaded with your Xbox 360 and drove you insane. The original Hexic was quite addictive and very challenging so I have high hopes for it’s sequel, especially for $10. The sequel is boasting online action via it’s battle mode and all-new special pieces and formations, worth checking out.

Ninja BeeNinja Bee sent us over a copy of Band of Bugs for the Xbox LIVE arcade so I decided to give it a whirl other than the bits and pieces I had seen form the demo. This game really is deep for an arcade title and is based heavily on games like Final Fantasy Tactics, but with bugs as your main characters. It is turn based tactical battle that can be played either versus computer AI in the story mode or over Xbox LIVE against LIVE opponents. Also the editor is an interesting feature where you can create your own lands and play against friends on those created terrains.

I played through the single player campaign and I like how they show you the different attack types and units as you progress through. My favorite thing in the game has to be pushing enemy bugs into the water for instant kills(as long as they don’t fly of course). I am looking forward to playing through more of this title and trying out the new expansion. The only problem I found so far was finding a game online, seems not many people are actively playing over Xbox LIVE, if any reader wants to get a game in let me know.

Lost PlanetCapcom announced today that they are releasing a new patch as well as new multiplayer maps for Lost Planet on the PC. The new DX enhancement for Lost Planet PC will be released as an automatic download on August 16 and will utilize Geometry Shaders to improve the overall visual quality through beter depth of field effects and improve motion blurring.

This update will also provide the PC users with basic chatting functions such as 4 default message options to communicate with others in lobbies.

In addition, PC Map Pack #2 will be available for free download on the August 16 and includes the following four maps: “Battleground,” an abandoned town scattered with rubble from ruined buildings, featuring indoor/outdoor areas with multi-level vantage points; “Lost Technology,” a throw-back to the good ol’ days of pixelated 8-bit gaming, “Ruins,” ancient temples set amidst a lush jungle; and “Ice Drop,” a frigid glacier with lots of peaks, nooks and crannies. The total file size for PC Map Pack #2 will be 400 Mb.

As for the Xbox 360 community of Lost Planet fans. The “Lost Technology,” “Ruins,” and “Ice Drop” maps in PC Map Pack #2 are currently available as Map Pack #3 in the Xbox 360 version of Lost Planet. In conjunction with the PC update on August 16 th, all these maps will also be made available for free download on Xbox Live Marketplace . A new patch addressing connectivity for players of the Xbox 360 version will be available in the next few weeks.

That is a lot of news from the folks over at Capcom, check it out.

T&FThe Konami classic Track and Field came over to Xbox LIVE arcade this week and it just doesn’t have the same appeal it did 25 years ago. This 1983 old school button masher does not offer anything new and really is just that, “a button mashing experience”, and not even a good one at that. All I can say is save your time, 400 MS points and disk space and steer clear of this train wreck. This poor old title should have stayed back in the 80’s with the hair bands.

Master Chief with FriesHalo 3 is a media giant right now and it has already officially hit the 1 million pre-sell mark. Launch day for Halo 3 is a monumental day and I am curious if the Xbox LIVE servers will be able to handle the huge influx of users crashing the servers simultaneously?

Not only are gamers craving this game but so is anyone that can co-market their products on the backs of the Halo franchise. Halo 3 is now running promotions and marketing with: 7-Eleven, Mountain Dew, Pontiac, The Projekt Revolution Tour and Burger King.

In a sad way I am actually happy to see Master Chief plastered on the side of a Burger King french fry box, why you ask? Well because it means people are beginning to view the video game industtry seriously and value the effect a franchise title like Halo 3 can have, perhaps we will see more co-marketing of this style in the future.

Although it is ironic that most of the things asscoicated with Halo 3 are not exactly health conscious, Mountain Dew, 7-Eleven and Burger King, all they need left is a deal with Lard.
