Tony Hawk has taken skateboarding games to the next level with RIDE. It’s too bad that level is crappy, small, poorly laid out, and lacks imagination or creativity in every possible facet. If you are a fan of skateboarding games, like me, you know that the Tony Hawk series was great early on, and even the T.H.U.G. releases were good, but the franchise got a little tired in the Project 8 and Proving Ground releases. Then SKATE and SKATE 2 came along and revolutionized the way we think about skateboarding games. They opened our minds about skating in the truest sense of the sport’s freedom and it’s creativity. Tony Hawk RIDE takes all the great concepts of those classic skateboarding games, throws them out the window, and goes one step further with the new controller. Unfortunately, that step also takes you straight back to the game store to get your money back. Now, if only there was a receipt for your wasted time. Hit the jump for more details.
Tony Hawk: Ride is the first of its kind. You’ll be able to get off your ass and make a fool of yourself on a fake plastic skateboard in your living room. I’m sure many of you are on the fence, given the price and needing another peripheral. Check out some grinding gameplay and see if it looks cool enough for your tastes.
There’s a ton of big new releases today for your shopping needs. Assassin’s Creed 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Tony Hawk Ride, God of War Collection, and LittleBigPlanet for PSP highlight the show. Are you buying any the big names today? I’m definitely grabbing Left 4 Dead 2 and the God of War Collection this week. Assassin’s Creed 2 is on my “must-buy” list, but it’s going to have to wait a couple weeks until I have more time.

I used to love playing Tony Hawk games back on the PS1 and PS2. The first couple games of the series were amazing, but things dropped off quite a bit afterward. Even the current-gen versions haven’t wow’d me. Skate came along and revolutionized skateboarding games and now Activision is responding with Tony Hawk: Ride. Go put away your controllers because they won’t work with this game.
