The second MW2 map pack, aptly called the Resurgence Pack is being released today on Xbox Live for the low, low price of 15 bucks. It is the same deal as last time. You get 5 maps. 3 of them are new. 2 are re-done from MW1. There are no new perks, weapons, or classes to be added. A lot of gamers took issue with the price as 15 bucks is a lot for only maps. The game has a lot of replay value because of the multiplayer, but to be able to play everything the game has to offer, you will have sunk in $90 at this point for no new playable content.
Sweet, a new Call of Duty map pack! Except for the fact that it’s a rip off. In comparison to COD 4, I have no idea why everyone is purchasing these maps. First, lets take a look at the COD 4 Variety Map Pack.
The Variety Pack included four new maps: Creek, Broadcast, Chinatown and Killhouse. While Killhouse was a small map, it was still fun to play from time to time. All of this ran you only $10, which I happily paid. Now, lets head on over to the most recent Modern Warfare map pack.

November 10, 2009 was supposed to be the day that changed gaming. Finally, the ultimate FPS was coming and gaming would unite in a massive multiplayer experience the likes of which the world has never seen. It actually happened. Then, the other shoe dropped. Glitches, hacks, cheating, the dismantling of a studio, lawsuits, and the eventual partial abandonment of the fastest selling game of all time all overshadowed the game itself. We finally got our first piece of DLC from Activision for MW2 and it does not make the gamer feel much better about the game than we did a few weeks ago.
The new map pack for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 releases today for 1200 MS points, or $15 USD. Three new maps, Salvage, Bailout, and Storm. There are also two cult favorites from Modern Warfare. I’ve also heard rumors of double-xp all week, so get online and prepare to poop on some kids with those dual blue-tiger P90′s.
Oh wait, I’ve just been handed an urgent news bulletin. The map pack doesn’t work on Xbox 360.
That’s right, multiple sites are reporting that while the download is now available, players are not able to play the new maps either public or private. From what these other sites have speculated on, it could be due to a separate title update to the game, which is meant to sync everything up correctly. Anyways, the day has come, the map pack is here, and it looks like we will be waiting just a little bit longer to play the maps than we want to. Drat. I hope Activision/Blizzard gets this fixed VERY quickly, if not for their sake, then for my sanity’s sake at least.

Want to see some tiny gameplay moments of the new Modern Warfare 2 maps? Of course you do. After watching this, if you can even remotely relate to the actors in the video, I feel sorry for you. Go hold your fish bowl in footie pajamas in the closet.
The problems surrounding Modern Warfare 2′s multiplayer has been a huge turn off. I haven’t played the game in over a month and don’t know how much I’ll go back. With all the glitches, hacks, and assholes online, it’s a tough sell for what was expected to be one of the best multiplayer experiences of this generation. The latest patch, available now on Xbox 360 and PS3, fixes quite a few lingering issues.

The infinite care package exploit is still out there on the PS3, which will be fixed in another patch. I’m sorry, Infinity Ward, but I think you should have done a lot more testing before releasing the game. Everyone knew how popular Modern Warfare 2 would be. By the time they get their act together, everyone will be moving on to Halo: Reach or something else.
This September, arguably the most important first party title for the Xbox 360 is coming. Mass Effect 2 is going to be amazing, but let’s face facts. Halo is just bigger than everything else. Halo 3 was, in a lot of gamers’ minds, Halo 2.5 and ODST was a $60 expansion. Nevertheless, the games sold millions. Halo: Reach figures to be the first true next gen Halo experience and we have been teased with trailers and “accidental” screen shots since we got word that this is Bungie’s last Halo title. Bungie may just have one ace up its sleeve however. They can do all the things Infinity Ward failed to do.
It never ends. Modern Warfare 2, while the most popular game on Xbox Live, is also the most attacked. It seems that modders have found ways to exploit the game even after all the patches Infinity Ward has thrown into place. This time around, getting killed could throw your online rank back to the stone age by removing 5 billion XP. Yes, that’s billion with a B. We’re unable to confirm if this mod/hack can go viral like previous glitches in the multiplayer, but either way, it’s a damn shame that MW2 is being marred with so many problems. I really want to play this online as much as possible. I truly do. But problem after problem is pushing me elsewhere.
I love me some Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer, but these glitches are getting ridiculous. The latest, dubbed the “Ice Skating” glitch, allows players to run at up to 5x the normal speed, giving you the feeling you’re skating on ice. It seems that the viral glitch is isolated to the Sabotage game type, so stick away from that for now.
The glitch started as a mod for the PC version of the game which was then migrated over to the Xbox 360. We have yet to hear reports of the glitch being present on the PS3 version of the game, but I’m sure that’ll change.
Whatever the case, if Infinity Ward wants MW2 to be the end-all-be-all of multiplayer shooters, of which it’s damn close, they need to crack down on these glitches.
[UPDATE – According to Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling, a playlist fix has been implemented on the server side to prevent the spread and use the ice skating glitch. Glad IW got on this one quick!]
