Well my current laptop has made several attempts to shit the bed lately. Aside from the battery crapping out, lots o'crashin, I had screws falling out the bottom the other night. I've been shopping around a bit and thinking of picking up the EEE PC 1000 with Linux. Anyone have experience with the Asus netbooks? Any suggestions on what to get?

I've had mixed experiences with Asus notebooks. Acer on the other hand is pretty solid. I stick with Mac only now.

well the old one didn't completely crap out yet but i took it upon myself to buy a new laptop anyway, cause the prices are low now but only going up with the FX rates going down the toilet. I picked up the Asus EEE PC1000. so far, I like it a lot.

The eepc is just a netbook, don't get it unless that's all you plan on doing with it, surfing the web. The keyboard is cramped, the screen is tiny, and performance is not there for anything graphically intensive.

Yeah I'm aware, but to be honest, since I spend 10+ hours a day in front of a computer at work, I don't really want too much for at home. I got the EEE PC 1000, the keyboard is only slightly smaller than my Dell Laptop and Internet, Music, Movies, and Writing on the go is all I need it for. I actually like it. I got Linux preloaded so it boots fast, now I'm looking it get it to run FreeCiv, then I will work on getting the original Fallout games up and running on it.

Only laptops I've had much experience with:
A Gateway which was ok but didn't hold up too great over time...
An HP a few years ago which was pretty nice and solid and is still used today by my dad...
Dell laptops have continually shat upon my college buddy (who is pretty good with computers)...
Then there's my current HP which I adore. Has treated me very nicely so far.
Nigh-useless post FTW.
