This PlayStation Network downtime sucks. I don’t think any of us can deny that. While I do fully applaud Sony for taking the necessary, yet difficult step of rebuilding the network infrastructure of the PSN due to the hacking that has gone down, it still ultimately hurts all of us who want to play with friends online. Plenty of questions still remain, such as who hacked the service, how they got in, if our credit card and wallet information was compromised during the intrusion, and what steps have been and will be taken to ensure this doesn’t happen again. Another question we’re wondering is what exactly Sony will do to make it up to all the gamers who can’t access the service.
Back in 2008, Xbox Live went down over the Christmas Holiday. Gamers had a hissy fit. Sure, it’s a paid service as opposed to the free PlayStation Network, but the issue remains the same: you can’t get online for all the games you want to play and some offline games don’t even work. Due to that downtime, Microsoft responded by offering all Xbox Live members a free game. Yes, it was a somewhat crappy game in Undertow, but it was still a free game. Will Sony follow suit? My guess is yes, but it’s currently unknown what they’ll offer both free and PlayStation Plus subscribers.
Aside from assurances the PlayStation Network won’t be further compromised, I would expect that we’ll get a free PSN game and/or some DLC. Maybe they’ll throw out a PS1 Classic or even a PS2 HD Remake for everyone. My guess is that it will be middle-aged game and certainly something first party, but as to what game it may be, it’s all up in the air. Sony isn’t commenting on anything as of yet, but we’ll be sure to keep tabs on the situation to see how things progress. While we wait, let us know what you want to see from Sony in response to the hack and downtime.

All I know is that I have been looking for a reason to switch back to XBox. Playstation conned me (I mean convinced me) to switch over on the promise of BLUERAY…a technology that is practically already passed do to streaming and download content. So I am basically an idiot…I owe Microsoft an apology for bailing on them and I can’t wait to go back and pay for the best online gaming platform available. My Playstation will be coming to an eBay auction near you. You’ll get it cheap because who the hell would want it.
You are serious? What a joke. Just a few years back LIVE went down for almost two whole weeks. And paying just to use party chat is nothing to brag about. Bluray is the ultimate in HD quality movies and games. You can’t equate the quality of a streamed or downloaded movie to a bluray copy. That is like comparing Pong to an actual game of table top tennis. The real thing wins every time. Only a true idiot or a 360 fanwank would post what you did. Often times, they go hand in hand. Go outside, read a book, play a single player game. Just shut up and quit whining over a necessary improvement. I would love to see you design the entire infrastructure to a FREE online service that hosts millions of players. That’s what I thought. Shut the hell up.
I agree with you,I have two ps3 consoles and i wouldn’t swop them for any other platform.People we are all unhappy,i just got used to cod black ops and received flashpoint red river.(oh i want to so tryit online)I hope that sony pulls apart these idiots that caused this,and that their example would cause other so called smart guys(simple terms idiots with an einstein complex) not to try it again.Sony get it going again!!!! i am having withdrawal symtoms without the online gaming.

Is it really a big deal? Most people don’t pay for PP plus so its free the only thing that sucks is if you do want a game and you have to wait. I guess it hasn’t affected me so I’m not stressing but personally I don’t want anything from them.

The news broke today that our personal info was taken and its also possible our credit card info was as well. That is bullshit and stops me from ever using my cc with sony again. Thank god the last time I had one on file was about 5 yrs ago. I hope nothing happens to anyones info.
