Rumors are swirling that we’ll see a successor to the Wii announced at E3 this year. Multiple sources confirmed to Game Informer that the new system, which we’ll call Wii HD for now, will be announced in the coming months and released in 2012. No word on whether it will change up control schemes, beef up online connectivity, or make you toast. With very little information, let’s throw around some ideas on what we’d like to see from the new platform.
As someone who hasn’t touched his Wii console at all lately (worded carefully to avoid dong jokes), there are a few things I’d like to see changed with the next iteration of Nintendo’s home console. While I am a fan of the motion controls, Nintendo needs to go wireless with first-party rechargeable batteries for all peripherals. That means Nunchuks and Classic Controllers (if still present) need not be tethered to the Wii Remote. I’m sick of cords and Nintendo is the only one that still keeps tethered controllers the norm. Fix it.
Better graphics aside, Nintendo’s online platform is what needs the most attention. No matter what kind of connection speed I have at home (it’s good, by the way), the Wii moves slower than old people fuck when downloading anything. Just pulling up game details from the Wii Shop takes entirely too long. The console can surely pull data from the server faster — it just needs to be optimized. While we’re at it, please, for the love of all that is holy, get rid of the Friend Codes. I’m sure they’ll keep them for whatever arcane reason they have in their heads, but it’s a fully annoying system that needs to be revamped. Throw in a centralized online service with proper voice chat while you’re at it.
There are plenty of other small features that could definitely be added, but we want to hear from you. What are the biggest things you want to see in a Wii HD? Are you hoping the Vitality Sensor plays a prominent role? If you are, just pack your shit and go home. Go ahead, we’ll play some Sad Hulk music. Everyone else, drops some knowledge in the comments!

I’m sure this one will happen but being able to play DVD’s. Everything can play DVD’s now days. I won’t expect blu-ray because the whole sony thing but that would be nice too.
I completely agree about the rechargable batteries luckily I already have a 4 pack recharger at home but my cat chewed through my sensor bar cord in the beginning so I bought a wireless one thinking I was being smart. That shit took 4 batteries just to use the sensor bar then add in 2 people playing we’re talking 8 batteries now. Glad to say I found a $3 wired sensor bar so I don’t have to worry about that now.
Lastly just more aesthetically appealing. I wanna feel cool playing WiiHD not like I just got caught with my pants down and peanut butter on my balls
Really DVD’s how about Blue Ray that’s like asking it to play 8track. Serously.
I would like the Wii2 to be able to melt my face with graphics. Most of the Wii Games really were not that bad if you could get past the crappy graphics. Just HD is not enough they need to be able to compete. Sure game play is important but so is being able to enjoy what you are watching. They need to stop being the red-headed Step child and start being a contender for hard core gamers other wise I leave them firmly in the closet of dust beside my sega and atari. Fun for the novelty but not a real system.
I would like to just see the overall package updated. Better HD graphics to compete - NOT BEAT - current-gen consoles. Nintendo has really always been about gameplay and engaging experiences first, THEN graphics. Now I’d like to see it on the same page. Not Killzone 3 quality, but good.
I’d really also like to see better audio ports for 5.1 (optical even) to immerse me in the game even more.
Lastly, I’d like to see the motion controls go above the Playstation Move sensitivity and accuracy. I think they’ll succeed in this aspect, but you can probably kiss the updated networking, loss of friend codes, and more space in the multiplayer side of gaming goodbye. The Wii Network needs to be updated by at least 5 years (the PSN is in there with probably 2 years of updates) before it’s competing with Xbox Live and PSN again.
