Online Cloud Game Saves Finally Make PSN Plus Worth It

I really have no issue paying for Xbox Live because there is no other option. Xbox Live Silver is basically worthless outside of game updates. Normal PSN membership is adequate for most gamers because by adding PSN Plus, they really did not take anything away from us. They just added some new perks and if you really want them, you have cough up the dough. Until now, there is nothing I wanted on PSN Plus that would make me pay for it. Online cloud storage for games is a big step in the right direction.

Cloud storage, for those outside the geekdom, means you can store files safely online somewhere other than your own hard drive. This is usually reserved for accessing information from an outside source. With a PSN Plus membership, YOU CAN STORE YOUR GAME SAVES ONLINE. This is huge. No more worrying that the 89 hours you dumped into Elder Scrolls IV are gone because your PS3 HDD crashed. Starting with tomorrow’s update, you can access your game saves from the PS Cloud via the XMB on your PS3. Monster move for PS3 owners. Monster.

Does it work for Demon Souls or any other copy protected saves?

Oh man Demon Souls is copy protected? Shit.

I wonder if at some point Playstation Plus will have the yearly gift cards like XBOX Gold where you can find them discounted online

My guess is no, since everything is based on straight cash purchases on the PlayStation Store. Unless you find some weird deal to get PSN Cards for cheap, I don’t see it happening.

Sony confirmed it WILL work for copy-protected game saves. Future games will have functionality built it to save directly to your online account.
