World of Goo came to the iPad just before Christmas to much critical fanfare. The game was a hit on PC and WiiWare, but sales indicate that the iPad version is clearly the best. 2D Boy sold 125k copies on the iPad during its first month on the App Store. As comparison, the Steam version sold 97k copies during its first month and another 68k copies on WiiWare. That’s not too shabby!
2D Boy took advantage of Apple’s App Store freeze over the Christmas Holiday to stay in the Featured area - a very smart move on their part. Even with sale prices of $4.99 at launch, they still took home a nice payday for the game. In fact, it generated the highest revenue of any version to go along with the highest sales.
If you’ve never played World of Goo, you really need to pick the game on up whatever platform you can. It’s a terrific indie puzzle-style game that is sure to make you happy. In my opinion, having played the game on all three platforms, the iPad version is the most fun. Well worth the purchase!
