KontrolFreek Accessories: A Hands-On Look

Here at Loot Ninja, we often get games and accessories from developers and third party manufacturers. We do take a long look at what we get, not only because we like what we do, but we want to really do our due diligence so our readers get an honest opinion and the sender gets real feedback. I took a lengthy look at the KontrolFreek accessories and my take is that it is like a three bears scenarios. Cold on one aspect, hot on another, and a third somewhere in the middle.

We tried out three separate attachments and I will give you a little spiel on each. First, I tried out the football product called TD Freek. They are raised attachments for your joystick and have the shape and feel of mini-footballs. The touch was nice, but they did not give any added benefit to the game. It took some getting used too and I had some trouble maneuvering around. Fun, but not necessary.

The next pair we tried were the FPS Freek. Again, these are raised and designed to increase the response time of your movements. After some getting used to, a lot, I did notice I could take corners faster and move the reticule with more precision. However, your thumbs do feel sore after being raised so high probably because you are not used to the height. A good addition and might be worth a look.

The last set I tried was the Speed Freek and found these to be the most helpful. I own a few racing games but no wheel because I am not a big racing game fan. These absolutely helped with the control of the car from a joystick point of view. Since your fingers do not change their height that much, there is little getting used to. Pressing them either way was very easy as the plastic side guards keep your thumbs in place. As you can see, this was my favorite and the most applicable.

KontrolFreek has a growing set of accessories. I found the racing adapters the best, by far, but you may find differently. With a very competitive price, take a look and give it a shot. Hardcore gamers might find these give you a LEGAL advantage on the circuit and pwning people is what we do.
