More PSP2 Rumors - October Launch, HD Screen, Twin Sticks

More PSP2 rumors today from MCV, who earlier reported that we might be seeing the portable’s reveal later this month. This time around, the UK publication is reporting that the PSP2 will occur in Q4 2011, perhaps as early as October. It will include an HD screen, dual analog sticks and a physical media drive (UMD wasn’t said specifically, but makes sense). Lastly, it’s said that the PSP2 power is similar to that of the PS3.

Now, take all of this with a grain of salt, but I can see all of these things happening. Dual analog sticks is a must after everyone has been clamoring for it since the launch of the PSP. An HD screen makes sense to keep a long life span on the device, and keeping physical media as well as allowing downloads from the PSN gives flexibility without alienating the retail channel. What has me puzzled and interested is the claim that it’s as powerful as the PS3. It’s tough to imaging Sony being able to fit a Cell processor and enough RAM and video card power into such a small package, but I’m not an engineering expert, so it’s completely possible that they pulled this one off.

We’ll see in a few short weeks if the PSP2 is all we’ve dreamed. I’m just looking for solid gaming and a reason to play something other than my iPhone away from my home consoles. Here’s to hoping that Sony pulls this one off.
