MLB 2K11 First Look Promises It’s Better, But I’m Not Convinced

The MLB 2K series hasn’t been the greatest. Let’s just put that out there. The game has been trounced year after year by Sony’s MLB The Show series. The development switch from Kush Games to the team behind the NBA 2K series was a smart move, but I don’t believe they’ve had enough time to really get in there and make the plethora of core changes needed to provide a really solid baseball game.

2K released a First Look trailer overnight that shows off some new player models and improved fielding. To me, the players still don’t look that good (especially compared to MLB 11: The Show) and the fielding shown off is more along the lines of fancy plays that don’t happen very often in real life. Honestly, how many times do you see a second baseman toss the ball behind his back with his glove to the shortstop to turn a double play? The answer is maybe 2-3 times in an entire season. Sure, it looks pretty for a trailer, but based on previous gameplay woes, I’m not convinced this type of play won’t become the norm in 2K11.

Either way, feast your eyes on 2K’s latest and anxiously await the arrival of pitchers and catchers in 38 days (at least that’s when the Yankees report).

As a side note, why the hell does 2K always put those red bars at the top and bottom of their MLB trailers? It makes no sense.

I think the red bars is their subliminal messages trying to trick you into buying there games. I remember learning about supposedly the color red in advertisements makes viewers more intriqued or some shit. NOT GONNA WORK ON ME 2K. YVAN EHT NIOJ!
