When word of the Undead Nightmare DLC hit the internets, I was half excited and half apathetic. On one hand, one of my favorite games of all time was getting new content that was something more than another multiplayer update and adding something to the amazing single player. Nevertheless, it was zombies. Is anyone a little tired of zombies? Left 4 Dead, Dead Rising, Resident Evil 5, and the CoD Nazi Zombies; enough is enough. Despite an undead overload, this is an insane amount of game for 10 bucks and should be a must download for any RDR fan.

The DLC is more or less spoiler free, but I would at least beat the main game first. There will be a ton of references to the main quest, a lot of them funny, that you won’t get if you didn’t at least finish the main story arc. You will revisit all the places you repeatedly rode across in the main game but this time they are different. You guessed it, the dead have risen. The single coolest aspect is the real time zombie change. If a NPC gets bitten/mauled/eaten, they will rise up, and come for you. This happens in the span of seconds. So life like, if that’s how zombies work. You have to explore the map, defend towns, rescue people, and ultimately, find out what the fuck is going on.

There are new challenges, outfits, strangers, and everything you enjoyed in the main game. To top it off, you can find the 4 horses of the apocalypse. They are undead horses than move like Ferrari’s and have mystical powers once they are broken. Every area is open but there is no fast travel, so find a special horse. You can also shoot your horse in the face, wait a second, whistle, and you have a faster, undead horse. There will also be undead animals, new wildlife, and hunting challenges. This is basically a game all to itself.

There will be a ton of DLC for all your favorite games this year. I doubt any will be as good as this. A 6-8 hr campaign, many side missions, and Zombie Horde/Firefight mode, and more multiplayer modes gives you as much as you can imagine for 10 bucks. The DLC is currently download only but will hit the shelves in November if you are lacking the 1.5gb or so the download takes up. Any fan of RDR, and there is a lot of us, needs to get this. Even if you played casually, scoop this up now.
