Soundgarden and grunge music sort of disbanded after the death of Kurt Kobain in the late 90′s. The only whole band to carry the torch from the epic music era is Pearl Jam. Chris Cornell has also gone on to do some of his own solo projects, teaming up with the likes of Audioslave to create some great rock albums, but his later projects just didn’t sound the same. They didn’t capture the same edge of songs like “My Wave” or “The Day I Tried To Live” from Superunknown. As you can tell, I’m a big Soundgarden fan, so this news comes as a great surprise to me that Soundgarden has actually reunited and will be releasing their first new album in over 10 years.
Not only is Soundgarden getting back together, their album will also be bundled with every unit of Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. Awesome! You’ll get a hard copy of the CD for tooling around town in your car, but you’ll also receive a code to unlock the new album “Telephantasm” a week before the album drops as free downloadable content in the game. Win and win.
“We’re extremely excited to be collaborating with Soundgarden on this monumental moment in their music career,” said Tim Riley, Vice President of Music Affairs for Guitar Hero. “Guitar Hero continues to break new ground by being the preeminent interactive platform for debuting original content and a stage for the biggest acts in all genres of rock and roll to reach new audiences in an all-new way.”
September 28th marks the date for the release of Warriors of Rock as well as the release of three expanded versions of Telephantasm which will include a double-disc with 12 additional song tracks, Soundgarden’s first-ever DVD, a Deluxe 3-LP Vinyl Edition and an individually numbered Super Deluxe Collector’s Edition. The Super Deluxe Collector’s Edition will be available for a limited time and will include two CDs, the limited edition DVD, three heavy vinyl discs, a collectible poster, lithos, and much more.
Color me a happy grunge gamer! You guys also excited about this? I definitely see myself picking up the new album, but maybe not spending the money on the game.
Soundgarden is awesome can’t wait for a new album but no Guitar Hero for me. I’ll stick to my real guitar if I want to play something. I haven’t bought one music game yet and I won’t. I wish Activision would stop pumping out these games and try something new. No DJ Hero doesn’t count that was trash.
My cousin recommended this blog and she was totally right keep up the fantastic work!
I just want to point out that Mr. Cobain died in the early mid 90’s, not the late 90’s, and that grunge music took off at that point. His death was not a kill shot for the scene, it was a media booster that powered grunge through the 90’s. Good to know though that the new Guitar Hero comes with the album.
I strongly agree! Often when pioneers of a movement die their work lives on through the fans and gets bigger and bigger.
