Fat Princess has always been one of my go-to games when I wanted a fun, but not over-bearing multiplayer experience. Something about the art style, gameplay, and announcer always puts a smile on my face. However, when I transferred over to my PS3 Slim, my game save was lost. I had to start over, so I didn’t jump into the game as often. With the recent 1.06 patch at Fat Roles DLC, that has changed. Pirates, Ninjas, and Giants make feel fresh and even more enjoyable.

After downloading the DLC, a new magic hat spawn point becomes available in every game level. It doesn’t continuously spawn these new hats — there’s a timer so a new hat only shows up roughly 18-20 seconds after the last one was picked up. Snatching to that hat allows you to turn into a Pirate, Ninja, or Giant. You can hit Triangle to switch to the other characters from the starting one (which seems to happen randomly). Once you get to the third character, though, you can’t switch any more. The Pirates can call in cannon ball attacks, the Ninjas can hide in the shadows and sneak through doors into the enemy castle, and the Giants can cause rumbling earthquakes and gain health by chomping on opposing players. Each of the new classes works very well and are fun to play. My personal favorite is the Ninja as the sword attacks are deadly and you can get around the map with ease.

If you’re a Fat Princess player or someone who used to play and hasn’t touched the game recently, give Fat Roles a try. It has rejuvenated my love of Fat Princess to the point to once again becoming an every day staple in my gaming library. If the $4.99 price tag seems steep to you, just trust me, it really does change up the game mechanics enough that it makes an already fun game that much better.
