Review: Guitar Hero (iPhone)

Ryan Sullivan July 2, 2010 |

Okay, so I think you are all pretty familiar with Guitar Hero, and the millions of spin-offs available for the iPhone. From Tap-Tap Revenge, to Delicious Vinyl DJ, how do they stack up to the original? Find out after the jump.

Guitar Hero for iPhone comes straight from Activision and Vicarious Visions. This game means serious shredding, folks. Fully customizable 3D avatar, and a wicked selection of all the sick tracks you love from the console version of Guitar Hero. Not only that, but you can allow access to your iPod library, and the game will notify you when your favorite tracks are available for download and use in gameplay. That’s awesome.

The game comes pre-loaded with 6 songs from legendary artists, to modern favorites: Queen – We Are The Champions, Rise Against – Savior, The Rolling Stones – Paint It Black, The White Stripes – Seven Nation Army, Weezer – Say It Ain’t So, and Vampire Weekend – Cousins. Also, the in-game store is already bursting with additional tracks from Queen, Vampire Weekend, Minus the Bear, Silversun Pickups, The Faint, Band of Skulls, White Stripes, Obits, Darkest Hour, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Protest the Hero, Breaking Benjamin, A Day to Remember, and others.

If Guitar Hero is your thing, this mobile version is a huge improvement over the knock-offs out there right now. You don’t just tap. You tap, slide, strum, and whammy, with the gameplay being totally customized to each individual song. Integrated social networking is there so you can share photos of your 3D avatar, and share your top scores on Facebook. Complete song-specific challenges to unlock additional gear for your 3D rock star self, and rule the stage in style. Fans of the franchise will love this, and if you are debating purchases of other iterations of this genre, I highly suggest you check this one out. $2.99, available in the App Store now.
