When you’re killing zombies or smacking them over the head in Left 4 Dead 2, would you sit back in the safe room after a hard day’s fight and eat zombie meat or drink zombie blood? Probably not. That just sounds nasty. Also, there’s just no telling what other “things” you would do to those corpses. Hoping to change all of that (besides you having sex with a dead corpse) is a new company called Harcos Laboratories. They are in the business of supplying you with zombie blood so you don’t have to keep that rotting zombie corpse in the safe room. Is Zombie Blood energy potion worth not having to kill zombies, or is it just another huge corporation making money off of the dead rising? Read on for the full review.

I’ll get to the review of Zombie Blood here in a second, but I just wanted to point out a few key things surrounding Zombie Blood. The first thing that stuck out to me was the great sense of humor and time that Harcos Laboratories put into its products and webpages. If you’re bored at work or just have a few minutes and need a good laugh, go on over and peruse the many sites and Frequently Asked Questions associated with their line up of products. The Zombie Protection Agency is great, with the Ethical Treatment of Zombies FAQ and the Zombie Blood testimonials featured on the homepage are downright hilarious. These are also the same people who brought us the Blood Energy Potion, so they know which funny bone to pull.

What does Zombie Blood actually taste like? Well, I’ll get to that in a minute. I wanted to also talk about the color, consistency, and packaging of the green energy potion. Zombie Blood isn’t your typical canned energy drink like ever other one out there. I received a UPS box that had been sitting in a truck for who knows how long. It was extremely hot, and it didn’t seem too appetizing when I first laid eyes on it. The IV bag packaging says to drink it at room temperature for full effect (which is apparently normal zombie blood temperature) but it also says you can enjoy it over a few cubes of ice (chilled). I went with the safe bet and put the IV bags into the fridge for a few hours.

Getting into the review, I treated this product as if it were a new beer I was tasting. I smelled the aroma of the blood (it felt weird to write that out) and looked at the overall color of this energy potion. Zombie Blood pours out of the small IV bag very much like a thick cartoon-ish green Gatorade. I would have loved for Zombie Blood to be a little darker in color than what it is and take on a more snot or green mucus coloring, but overall it’s not bad. The color hints at the smell and taste underneath all of that green: lime. Zombie Blood tastes just like a sort of lemon-lime Gatorade and is just fine right out of the fridge cold. If you let it sit in your glass for a few minutes, it begins to take on even more flavor as the blood slowly warms up. Overall, not too bad. Good citrus aftertaste and I could definitely taste the slight tinge of electrolytes infused into the Zombie Blood.

Zombie Blood isn’t a product to buy on a regular basis. For one, it’s a little on the pricey side, with $4 dollars getting you one small IV bag of green juice. You pay that high price for the great packaging, bloody finger prints, and the feeling you get when you crack open a bag and hold it over your face for the first time. To me, that’s totally worth it. You probably won’t ever run inside after mowing the yard on a hot summer’s day to pop open a bag of this stuff, but Zombie Blood at it’s heart is made by a company that is IN on the joke. They know exactly what type of drink they are selling, and want to reach out to fans of this type of product. They aren’t trying to sell you something to have every day, or take down cola giants Pepsi or Coke. Zombie Blood in my mind is in the same league as having one of the awesome Three Wolf Moon shirts. You really don’t need Zombie Blood (or a wolf shirt), but it’s damn cool to have once in awhile and break out on a special occasion (like parties or for Halloween).
