This marks the third iteration of Plants vs. Zombies I’ve played (Mac, iPhone, iPad) and I’ve debated in my head which is the best for the past week. Being our first iPad review here at Loot Ninja, it’s only fitting that it be one of my favorite games of all last year and my favorite game so far on Apple’s new wonder device. By now, you know how Plants vs. Zombies works. Place your plants along the various paths in your yard, roof, wherever to prevent the zombies from getting all the way to your end of the playing field. You’ll get various plant upgrades along the way as well as face increasingly difficult zombies. It’s the same game you know and love. The big differences here from the iPhone version, aside from the stunning HD graphics, are the inclusion of mini-games and survival mode, both ported over from the PC/Mac edition. The iPad version has everything the PC/Mac edition has plus an exclusive Buttered Popcorn mini-game, which is pretty damn fun. My favorite is still the Whack-a-Mole style mini-game.
I have nothing bad to say here. This is my absolute favorite version of Plants vs. Zombies. The iPhone version is great because I have it anywhere at any time, but when I want more than Adventure Mode, the iPad is the way to go. PvZ HD is well worth your $9.99. If you’re one of the iPad early adopters, like me, this better be on your first home screen. If not, both myself and PopCap will come find you and give you the stink eye. Yeah, that’s right. The stink eye.
