Like many of you, I have been logging a ton of hours into BF:BC2 since I picked it up last week. The game is just that awesome. Anyway, when we play at my house, we always go nuts whenever one of us scores a knife kill which results in the acquisition of that player’s dog tags. We akin the experience to a man taking another man’s “innocence” in a prison shower like in Oz. Since most of the tags we get are bronze and every now and then we get a silver, I have been searching forums and FAQs to see just what the exact rankings are for each dog tag. This is what the consensus says, so I may be a rank or two off. If I have erred, by all means correct me. Here are the ranking breakdowns. Just scroll down the guide.
- Bronze: Knife kill a player with the ranking 1-21 which is up to First Sergeant III and stops before officers.
- Silver: Knife kill a player with the ranking 22-45 which is from Warrant Officer I to Colonel III
- Gold: Knife kill a player with the ranking 46-50 which is from Brigadier General I to General of the Army.
I pulled these from forum consensuses, so if you have a better explanation and proof of it, I will update and give due credit.

does anyone else use the shotgun with slugs online? i seem to be kicking ass and i dont see anyone else doin it…
My friend and I use the 870 Shotgun with Slugs and Magnum Ammo. This combo is a Yes or No system. You either hit and kill or you miss and die… Y or N. Plus I love to snipe snipers from long range with it as the Slugs barely dip. Should probably keep this in the Down Low before DICE patches the Slugs and Nerfs the shotguns.
I think they’re only useful on hardcore where it’s an OHK.

I just started using the shotgun with slugs and mag ammo. I have been kicking butt with it. It’s not that great for every map or section of Rush. I think it is making me a better player because you can’t spray and pray with it like many other weapons. You basically have one shot to get it done.
knifing is broken in the ps3 version. i have knifed countless people and it doesnt register. this has happened so much so that i ahve stopped knifing and just shoot them in the back of the head. also shot guns are not very good in the majority of the levels.
Correct knifing is F'd in the A. Funny how it used to work when the game was 1st launched. Then they brought out the wonderful patches to 'fix' and enhance our gameplay. (In this process they replaced the knife with a McDonalds plastic spoon.)

dude… you need to practice…. just try knifing them in the back at first then move up… to straight knifing them in the face…. just beware it will get better…. the game is set-up that differently then the first BFBC. the knifing is a science in itself… in BFBC2… mk!

How did I know there would be a camper/sniper commenting on shotguns? Because they are always the first ones to whine when they get owned because they have no time to quick-scope against a shotgun.

I repair tool 'em now ive got 200 knife kills , shame you dont get tags for this. Its easy to knife (lag glitch permitting) people need to pay attention more.
i only use them when defending in small , tight , compact rooms

Lol So that explains it. I’ve got 75 knives within 48 hours. I just got the 2 days of play patch this previous game and It says 75 tags, 62 unique. I think its pretty impressive considering I’m not some noob who just runs around all day knifing and talking shit like I see many people do.
I noticed people are way more considerate on Battlefield than other games like CoD. Like I sent a guy a message about spawn camping and he said I was right, apologized, and said he saw it differently now that i mentioned it and said he’d never do it again, then added me as a friend. This has happened like 4 other times within 2 days of online play.
That apologising sounds pretty exagurated, and while yes you may be a great knifer, some modesty might help make you look a little less like the guys you dispise if u know what i mean.
What a load of rubbish! You must be on the polite.com servers. A lot of the servers I play on are constantly baseraped now - it's getting worse and worse. Normally a polite request to stop it results in some 12yo retort.
That and bush wookies - just played a game at Africa Harbor and there were 8 snipers in the bushline around the edge, all on the same team and none of them even bothering to call targets. Morons.

I'd think it kind of obvious that shotgunning takes a bit more skill then sniping. In a shotgun scenario, you're @ close quarters, and if you miss your first shot, you're liable to end up with a head fulla lead; whereas with sniping, it's much more low-risk, being that you're further away and more likely to be able to get another shot off before the target locates you. Sniping is always a safer bet, that's why you're doing it, right smartass?

i knifed my first rank 50 when i was rank 16 i was surprised that i got a gold star i didn't even know what it was for since it was my first 5 days on BBC2.

I just knifed a guy with rank 42 and got gold tags. So your breakdown is incorrect.
I have the feeling that at first gold was only given when you knife a lvl 50, but once you do you now have gold, and anyone who knifes you also gets gold. Cummulative it seems. I think this is true because the lvl 42 that i just knifed has knifed a few lvl 50s if you check his stats.. which I did. Now of course it would not make sense for say a lvl 1 or 2 or 3 etc to knife a lvl 50 and now give out golds, so I assume you must also have at least lvl 40+ for this to be true.

I know that knifing a lvl 42 gets you silver, lvl 48 is gold, so I'd say from my experience that your assessment is correct.

In general if you snipe with a sniper rifle or a slug you have no skill. Seeing how the sights don't move with breathing, why not test your skill in pick up a rifle
400 knifes and counting… I love the shot gun 870 but i like using all the weapons, its more fun for me to try all the features of the game rather than get good at one. I wanting the all weapons patch, Im almost there. i only get 4 maybe five maps. How bout yall? I wish they would fix the part where it states you loose or win. its always wrong.
i have played the game for less than 48 hours nd have exactly 99 dog tags…i love knifing ppl it gives me a rush 2 kno that i have basically owned whoever it was i stabbed…nd i hate shoguns but i really love assault riles
nd out of that 99 1 pair are gold…becuz all the level 50 i c or come across snipe or stay on the outskirts of the map nd are scared 2 get into the middle of the fight
I sniped only to get the automatic sniper rifle (SVV? can't remember the acronym) cause I can be an assault/sniper and get into action. There are a lot of skilled snipers in BC2 but most of them don't play as a team : don't spot, don't use mortar, don't capture point, don't defuse etc…
It makes some conquest matches really pathetic when the opposing team is nearly all snipers and raping your a** as soon as you spawn on your teammate and that in the end, you still win cause they all thing god gave them special skills to handle these rifles.

Interesting… First of all my mouse would not knife until i replaced it at level 10! I see knifing as a fun thing, but like snipers, you just die and move on.
The name of the game is points and kills, and getting rank. Nothing else matters.
I ignore knifers and snipers, and keep my eye on the ball to make kills, saves, and other "point getters".
And for "Who Cares", I'll definitely knife you any day since you are a bully.
Using a knife is awesome. Im quite the noob, having just played like 12 hours, but I do have 25 tags, including a few silver ones.
And the discussion about what to shoot with, shotguns or rifles… Who cares; it's war. Use whatever you fancy. For me that's an assault rifle with x4 scope.
hey about the shot gun its not really cheap but IT CAN BE if you use it you can own if you dont use it you could get owned it all depends on how you play .. i actually do think it might get patched but i wouldnt care but i do hate it when im on a roll great kill streak and boom shotgun to the face from 100 yards lol but if you have a ps3 and bfbc2 add me and maybe we can ply no homo

some one made comment that people talk less shit and try, play as a team and are nice on BC2 than COD, had had enough of being knifed by guys with marathon an light weight on ( second prestige so im not a noob complaining cause i suck) , so got my self BC2 and loved it, more people . more to do, healing my friends gets me more points than kills its great. and i dont have to be a K/D ratio whore any more. love this game.

For those who think shot gunning is skilful need to revise. The range with slugs are as we say ‘unnatural’, UNSKILLED. Why? It’s simple . . . All it’s takes is aiming a + on the enemy at any distance with magnum ammo clicking the trigger and that’s it a possible kill, basically screaming I’m directly here and the tables turn quickly.
Sniping (RECON) on the other hand takes alot of skill, patience, timing and precision. If you understand the recon roll, you effectively become almost the team leader, giving/sending orders/information,spotting,radar ambushing (motion assists), anti tank demolition with mortar missiles, bush whacking bush wackies via the knife. (basically knifing that enemy that go hunting for you in the bush). No scope ambushing campers. And of course using that 1.5 inch above the enemys head to produce a remarkle bullet that shoots out past 200m dropping with gravity to decease the person receiving with this 22 sec though out shot.

Dogtagging is fair enough, but its not exactly hard to get them or sustainable to keep your own, everyone will always always have to go assault at some stage if they are any form of team player FTW, and fall for the “guy behind the door waiting as you run past” then all they need to do is sprint quickly- point themselves roughly at you then push melee and let go of the controls as it auto aim kills the guy. Dont get why people think they’re fricking samurais once they get you. I do it all the time.
I go with Recon alot, this was mainly for the C4 and motion mines so I could get myself some demo kills. Armed with the semi shotgun i just used to run round like a mad man launching motion mines everywhere, blasting the f~ck outta everything that moves and tumbling buildings left right and center. I then started using the same load out but as assault so i could reload my C4
Now on Vietnam I use Recon, but with the Thompson, ‘cos I love being able to unleash hell on a sniper sat a mile away on the side of a hill in a bush, whilst also being able to flank tanks and destroy them. If you are sat somewhere close to a road sniping, TNT then becomes useful for when tanks roll down it. I stagger it down the road abit so there’s more chance of destroying it, I got two tanks with one blast last week XD

People who always call a sniper a pussy just means they get raped all the time by them. Some people like to run around an be assualt or medic or engineer. To be a good sniper takes tme and practice. But I will edmit when u get in a match with everybody on a team is sniping. It just makes it harder for the sniper who spots an calls in mortar strikes and helps out there team.
I have 6000+ dog tags, and i am not gonna stop now. Unlike the morons who have 10k+ tags, they destroy their k/d to get it, i on the other hand have a k/d of 2, plus my tag counts.
Shotgun + slugs is an awesome combination, but it requires good skill, there is nothing more rewarding then shooting a lame sniper 200m far with my shotgun when he cant get me with his sniper rifle and then watch him nerd rage.
I know for a fact that I’ve got gold tags from a rank 41 player. I am talking PC. No Idea if PS3 or XBOX has different metrics.
